Have any of you Lance owners built a cover for your Hyki hatch while your not using the camper. I was trying to think of something to keep the heat out since your not supposed to close the shade when that sun is blazing.

You can buy covers, spoilers, gaskets, parts, etc. for the Dometic Heki vent from this place. The only problem is they are in the UK. I can't find any place in the US that stocks this stuff. Nor do I know if they ship internationally. But it's worth a shot. Let us know what they say if you decide to contact them.

I recieved a reply from Leisure products they want 7.75 pounds for delivery and it looks like 23 for the cover.I,m thinking a pound is almost $2 US so that would be $61.50 . They measure in mm even being Canadian I,d have to do some figuring. It shows a 700mm one and another large, if anyone knows what size is on the 2008 Lance it would save some time.

I was thinking about making a cover and maybe velcroing it on or something myself.

Do you mean the large hatch over the bed?
If so, my 981 is 3 years old, and I live in a desert climate. I have never done anything special and at least the one on my '05 is still performing just fine. If there is anything in my owner's manual that says there could be a problem I've never read it.

Read your manual a little closer. Your not supposed to "completely" close the shade. Leaving it open a crack, say 1/2 inch will be just fine. Save your self $60. I have 2 years experience in temperatures up to 110 degrees on this one. ..Mike

I'm living on the edge.
I cut some reflectix insulation and cover the inside. I leave the shade open about 3".
2 years, no problems yet (temps up to 108)
I thought maybe the lens would crack, but....nope.
The insulation sure helps the AC.

I think if a person put the reflective up against the dome it would be alright because the heat can,t build up and make the plastic arm brittle. What I did for now is made a cover out of a cloth agains the dome then a piece of I call it bubble foil over that then white ducttape holding it on. This is on the outside and it looks alright.Thats what Jim Allan said to try, he said the problem they had was people would shut that shade in the summer and the heat buildup would cause the arm to go brittle and break. Its to bad getting one of those hatch covers is so complicated ( comes from UK).
