I would like to know which are the best campgrounds in Colorado, around the Colorado Springs and surrounding areas. They are so many that is hard to pick which one is the best when it comes to scenery. We like lots of trees and if there are lakes around it even better.I saw some in the Chama area. Need some input. Thanks for the help.

Are you looking for NFS campgrounds or commercial?

There are several NFS campgrounds that will meet part of your needs, and there are a couple of commercial ones as well. Naturally the closer you are to town the harder it will be to find what you want.

PS... I don't consider Chama to be in the local area.

Get your hands on a Trailer Life Directory and you will find there are many commerical, state and federal campgrounds around Colorado Springs. Pick the type you want and tell us, then maybe we can help you pick.

My vote is Mueller State Park - here's a photo that sort of shows the view

This is site 31 at Conifer Ridge Section. The Park is close to Divide, Colorado - 25 miles or so from Colorado Springs.

What is "best" to one person would be "pure carp" to someone else. Need to know what you consider to BE a campground.

Just some thoughts. We don't like to stay in Colorado Springs. We go up 24 to Woodland Park. They have several parks, with full hookups, if that is what you want. We always stay at Diamond. Very nice and a lot of trees, and about 17 miles from the Springs. However, if you like state parks, one of the best I've seen is Muller. I've never stayed there just due to full hook ups, but I really lkie it.

I second Mueller. We stayed there and at Confier Ridge. Loved the view of Pikes Peak every morning. Our site number was 37
