Sorry, but if you are going to have a campground with 2000 sites, that's even more reason that you should have adequate security patrols. You should know what is going on.

I know security patrols won't eliminate theft, but it will discourage it.

We spent a week at Lakewood over the 4th too. We have stayed there many times over the past 2 years. Security was as tight as could be given how full the park was. I was out walking my dog at 3am and they even stopped me to make sure everything was ok. I will say (at the risk of stereotyping) some of the types of people there over this MAJOR holiday were not typical of other weekends we have been there. One family even opened up their black tank as they left and just let everything spill out on the ground! LakeWood promptly cleaned and disinfected the site! Yes, there were lots more kids and the golf cart thing was crazy, but they also were stopping carts that were going too fast or driving recklessly. There was more security on patrol than normal for the week we were there. I mean c'mon folks, would you set your bikes and stuff outside your motel room unsecured? We have never had a problem there but use reasonable precautions. We will go back there without hesitation.

Well, I just got off the phone with the in-laws who have been at Lakewood for a whole 2 days and the little thieves have struck again.

Last year, someone stole our cooler and our neighbor's cooler.

Today, after a couple hours at the local flea market, my in-laws returned to their site to find a folding camp chair missing as well as 2 of the semi-expensive reclining (La Fuma style) chairs stolen. They reported it to Lakewood's security office who said their was nothing that could be done. A chat with the manager yielded the quote ''I'm responsible for 160 acres here, what do you expect me to do?''. While filing a police report at the security shack, my in laws noticed a young 20's couple there and began to talk to them only to find out that this couple's ENTIRE CAMPSITE had been stolen ( tent, sleeping bags, cooler, grill, all of it!).

I'm not sure what is worse - the fact that 2 years in a row our family has been the victim of theft while camping? Or the fact that Lakewood's management is making NO EFFORT to provide a safe and enjoyable camping experience. I guess so much for a campground with good Christian values as they advesrtise themselves. Oh, and the kicker, the staff also told my in-laws that if they didn't like it they can file an insurance claim!?!

No more Lakewood for us.....

yep..We had our cooler broken into at Ocean Lakes the first night we were there. Ended up locking up everything the rest of the week we were there.

As posted on some of the earlier posts, these campgrounds are the size of small towns and like every town you get individuals you don't respect anybody or anything.
