Today we arrived at RV Wholesalers to pick up our 2009 Cruiser 32BL. Since we've never owned a 5'er before, we had to have a hitch installed. Our saleman recommended the Pullrite hitches which have a great reputation. In addition, I wanted the Super Rail kit installed which eliminates the visible mounting rails in the bed of the truck. These items were a part of the Purchase Agreement that was done 6 weeks ago.

We arrived at 9:00am and started looking over our Cruiser. We were very happy with the unit. There were only a couple of small things that needed RVW's attention. As we continued to look over camper, they took our truck to their shop to begin the hitch installation.

After a couple of hours, they drove our truck around and backed it up to our Cruiser. I went over to the bed a peeked over the side to see the hitch. To my shock, it had the typical mounting kit with the rails in the bed. I walked over to the head of the installation department and told him this was the wrong mounting kit...that I had wanted the Super Rails. He checked with our salesman and sure enough, the wrong part had been ordered and installed on our truck. For some reason, they didn't check the Purchase Agreement. They didn't have the Super Rail kit in stock so I was stuck with this setup.

To make a long story short, we reached a resolution that we both could live with and we drove our Cruiser home with the hitch I didn't want.

RVW does have great prices and we were able to reach a resolution. However, I now have permanent mounting rails in the truck bed that I can't remove. I might order the correct mounting kit and install it myself, but I will have holes in the bed of my truck that will need to be filled/repaired.

I guess the lesson that I learned is to ALWAYS double-check EVERYTHING...down to the last detail. However, even if I had caught it before they installed it, they still didn't have the right mounting kit in stock.

If any of you are getting RVW to install a hitch, double-check to make sure it's what you ordered.

We're still happy with our Cruiser and can't wait to head out next weekend on our first camping trip!

As things go along I predict that the rails wont bother you. If yoy are hauling rock or dirt etc I recommend that you place a thin sheet of plywood in the bed of the truck and load the material on top of that. That will keep the stuff out of the rails. This also works when hauling heavy appliances etc. Sorry you had the mistake.

Don't panic yet. When I bought my truck (used with low miles) it was obvious that it had above the bed rails in it that had been removed leaving scratch marks and bolt holes in the bed.

I then had a SuperGlide with under the bed rails installed in the truck. When this was completed I took the truck and had a Line-X spray in bed liner installed. The installers applied some sort of aluminum tape across the old bolt holes that I did not want or need. Then the liner was sprayed on leaving only the holes for the new under the bed rails.

It came out perfectly. I cannot tell where the covered holes are. The liner is so strong that over 3 years later I still do not know where those holes are or any sign of "weak" spots on the bed floor.

This is a solution for you if you choose. The Line-X is not cheap, but it will solve your problem and give you truck one of the best bed liners out there.

If you have to ask why I drive a Diesel, then you will never understand.

Souds like your title, "Not so good experience..." is not quite accurate. An error was made, but the dealer stepped up to the plate and you "made a resolution you both could live with". You apparently are now happy. What else could they do?

I guess it's all a matter of words, but it would be a bad experience for me also if someone installed something that I didn't want. Perhaps this is why the rv industry in general, including accessory installers, have a reputation of poor quality and workmanship. We as consumers accept it to readily.

I posted this experience to mainly warn people to be careful of RVW or any other RV dealership for that matter. Don't take anything for granted. Go over all the details before anything gets installed.

As for my title, I believe it is completely accurate. So, you don't consider the wrong hitch installed a "Not so good experience"? It does in my book!

PMiller228: You've just had a typical "RV-Net" experience. As it is such a widely read forum you're bound to end up with responses that; critique the title of the post or are argumentative in nature instead of simply addressing the content of the post with additions or general comments. As the O/P and defacto "owner" of the post, it's your right to title it any way you wish.

I would second vonzoog's post above of the "Linex" result. I had that stuff installed in the bed of my previous T/V and it is bullet-proof with a typical thickness of 3/32nds of an inch over-all. That will not only hide your holes but stand up to abuse without perforations happening where the holes were.

Thank you and everyone else for your posts.

I have a Line X liner right now so that sounds like a good solution. I will probably order the SuperRail kit and install it myself. I helped my wife's uncle install his 5'er hitch so I probably should have done my own.

jameswb1, I might try your suggestion for awhile just to see how I get along w/ these rails. I will pick up a sheet of OSB or something and maybe a couple of 2x4s to level out the bed when I need to slide stuff in.

I found that just throwing a thick rubber bed mat over the rails kinda makes you forget the're there. Seems to work fine for me.
