Remember when XP first came out, many customers of MS were having all kinds of incomparability problems. I guess for some (myself included) "here we go again"!

So glad you 've got the problem solved. Nothing more frustrating when you sit down at the computer and things are going wrong.

You can say that again! To answer 5er4evers question about my hardware, yes vista was pre-installed when I purchased it.

It's not Vista!..........I have 2 XP computers on my network plus my Vista laptop..........all print just fine.......

Hmmm...not Vista! A friend has the same problem with not being able to print using Vista from his network that has an XP machine has host machine. He just gave up and started plugging it in.

My Vista machine would not print to the printer either, the Mac did no problem. It was a HP Printer, HP's solution is to buy another printer. No more purchase of HP hardware or Software. Now if there were a Samba solution for Vista we could all print remotely like the Mac does!

I sent a PM to this person that has yet to respond so I will share here the instructions I found on the net.
==========================================
Because I can never remember how I did something months ago I decided to write down the Vista procedure. I searched the net and found the following instructions:

They worked for me 1st time. Hope they do for you also.

===========================
"Windows cannot connect to the printer. Access is denied"

In Vista Go to Control Panel. Choose printer. Then choose Add Printer.

Choose Add a local printer.
Click on Create a new port.
The default in the drop down box is Local Port. Do not change that. Click Next.

A dialogue box will appear asking for you to enter a port name. Type in the \\computer name\printer name ie. My computer's name is basement and the printer name is EpsonSty so I typed in \\basement\epsonsty

Yahoo! It worked. Go figure! I guess Microsoft thinks printers on a intranet are local.

Hope this helps someone else so they don't spend the hours I did on it!

I would like to thank everyone who posted to this problem. People actually responded on how to solve the two problems which were then solved without bogging down into a pro or con Vista issue.
Now I will add my 2 cents. Surprisingly, Comodo caused a connection problem with my computer. I went to Zone Alarm and the problem was resolved. I also posted earlier that Avast created a problem with Firefox 3.0 that was resolved by returning to AVG.
What this should show users is that because of the many many types of PC's out there with the many many hardware/software drivers etc. not everyone will have the same problem and the same solution (but sometimes it happens) and it sometimes takes a fair amount of debugging to get to the correct fix. For instance I debugged the FF 3.0 problem for over 2 weeks.
Now, many will say that is a problem with Vista. Others more knowledgeable will know that the problem lies with the many many different vendors that do not take all the care with their products that should be done, nor do it in a timely manner, see the problem with XP, ZA and a security update.
Myself, I wish the moderators of this forum would moderate a little more to keep some topics like these on subject. Not writing about this topic.

Private messages are private. None of the moderators can read PMs other than their own. I imagine the technicians can read private messages, if they wanted to.
