I thought we had seen it all during the Father's Day weekend when we had rather obnoxious people next to us - but this weekend was worse! We are in western New York and between Canada Independence Day (July 1st) and ours (July 4th) the park we are in is full and seems to be populated by people who left their manners (and common sense) at home. One fellow didn't want to pull his blue boy on the road to the dump, so he just cut right through our site with it! I gave him a dirty look (was so surprised I couldn't get my mouth open fast enough) and he just grinned and shrugged as if that excused it. Amazingly he took the road back to his rig after he had dumped! Naturally there are 8-10 people per site and most have teenagers. But amazingly it has been the grownups who are up until 2 am - women who drink and laugh can get pretty loud!
Well only one more 3 day weekend to go.

Guess it doesn't help full-timers but we retired folks usually stay home on such occasions.

The holiday crowds are why we generally boondock in dispersed camping areas, visit family and friends, or look for a 55+ park for the 3-day holiday weekends.

Holiday weekends are not for us either. We make it a point to not go away on them since we can choose when we go out. I guess fulltiming is sorta like living in a seaside resort town, where you see the big influx of summertime "weekend warriors". We live about 20 minutes from the beach and boardwalk and will not go there either June through August.

BarbaraOK...I remember your post about Gettysburg Battlefield Resort. Don't know what happened when you were here, but we've been here for the entire July 4th weekend (actually it's our home park), and this has been the most quiet holiday we've ever spent here....actually surprised us!!
We know it can get pretty hectic here, there are usually kids and drunks out the wazooo, however, seems they all stayed home this weekend. Most of the people around us are older couples and very few kids. Everyone's been polite, courteous and a joy to be around.
They actually had a wonderful re-enactment encampment here in the park...we're fulltimers too, and this has been the most relaxed holiday we've spent in 3 years on the road...you just never know!

We are in Stockbridge, MI and it has been total chaos! To make matters worse, we had to pay extra just because of the holiday. Being FTrs, we stayed inside the whole weekend except to walk the dog. Kids running bikes right into us, 4
4 wheeling by all ages, dogs not tied up and of course the obnoxious drunks. (As opposed to nice drunks). This morning, the campground is a dump with trash everywhere! We will rethink where we will go for the next holiday

I think the secret is to stay at a little out of the way park for the holiday. We spent the 3rd/4th at BJ's in Lusk, Wy. It's not a "destination", it's a stop along the way and so you only have a few passing through instead of the herd partying.
It's a quiet little town, put on one of the best 4th fireworks displays we.ve seen. We moved on to the "resort" on the 5th - when they all have hangovers and are trying to recover so they're all quietly suffering and not bothering anyone
