Let me start by saying I have gone to RVparkreviews and the various web sites for information. There is always one person who thinks research isn't done before a question is asked. I am planning a trip from Florida to the Smokeys for next summer that is if gas isn't $10 a gallon. I am looking to stay on Lake Lanier for a couple of days going up and back. Anyone with experience at all or some of the COE campgrounds, advise me on which one or ones to stay at and site recommendations? I have a 28' travel trailer. Thank you in advance, there is no substitute for experience..

I have been to them all and can tell you the best one with the best views of Lake Lanier is Old Federal...our next favorite is Shoal Creek and also Bald Ridge is very nice. Old Federal is probably the most popular and very hard to get into without reservations. Actually, in the summer they are all hard to get into without reservations. As far as site #'s, at Old Federal our favorite is 69 and 70 because of the views but not good sites if you have a boat or want to swim (rock wall)...really, most sites are good there, especially all the ones on this loop. Shoal Creek our favorite is #60, great for boat access and swimming. Some of the sites at Shoal Creek are tighter. It is a more wooded campground. Not familiar enough with site #s at Bald Ridge, but is a super nice campground and camp pads seem in better shape than Shoal Creek. Here is a few pictures...the first two are #69 and #70 at Old Federal....the next two are #60 at Shoal Creek...the last one is of the fantastic sunsets from these sites at Old Federal...Also, here is a website, scroll down, pick park and you can look at a picture of each campsite (Chestnut Ridge is closed)..sorry, don't know how to make a clickable link to website...the water is VERY low right now and expected to get worse. These pics. were when the lake was much more full.

HERE is a nice review and pics of Old Federal by Hereslucy. Looks like a really nice cg. You can't hardly go wrong with a COE park.

Also, at Old Federal #61 is a great site....Right by the bathroom and has a nice beach in front of campsite. The only bad experience we had here was some folks walking through our campsite all weekend going to the bathroom..but that has only happened once.
