Hi,
I am looking at a new Dodge 3500. The dealer says he will match the price of the GMC 2500 ($37,000 out the door). Now this seems too good to be true and I wanted to come here to see what you think.
You gave me good advice in January when I decided I wanted a new truck. I have waited and could wait longer because I have a truck but it is 17 years old.
However, this seems like it may be a very good time. It would be the automatic cummins diesel quad cab 4x4.
I'd love to hear your opinions.
Thank you,
Ellie

I think you are getting a good deal. Buying in Redding? I have enjoyed the folks at Crown Motors. Mine was less than 40K, but more than 37 out the door. The 3500 Dodge is way more truck than a 2500 Chev

In 04 3500 was only $500 more over 2500 on a dodge. Check out the net and shop your Dodge dealers locally . You can really get some good deals.

Our 06' 3500 SRW MegaCab STL 4x4 5.9 Cummins was $37K out the door. I think your getting a pretty good deal if it's a 08' 6.7 4x4.

Are they equal in opitions and creature comforts? Or is the GMC pretty nice and the Dodge a work truck edition?

Are you going for the diesel? If so, it can't be beat. I have always been a Ford guy and I have a friend who has always been a Chevy guy. My friend just happens to own one of the best repair shops in Albuquerque. When I started looking for a truck (I had been towing with a van but I'm thinking about a bigger trailer) he recommended the Dodge with the 5.9l diesel. Based on his experience, it is by far the best engine available . Not only did he recommend one, he bought one too.

The options are about the same. PenMan, it is the diesel. JusPlane and CoolBreeze thanks for the specifics. It will help me deal with them and if I know prices, then they won't be able to take advantage of me since I'm going in by myself.
I do appreciate it.

Is the price for the GMC the sticker price or a negotiated price. If it's the sticker price there is no wonder they can match it. Compare how the trucks are equipped. The price difference between a 2500 and 3500 is minimal compared to the cost of all the bells and whistles they put on trucks these days. You have to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges. Remember, big trucks are a soft market these days, so don't buy into the B/S. Shop around, give them a lowball offer and make them come to you.

The GMC was 38,000 and he was "giving" it to me at $35,000... add the license, tax, etc.to it and it came to $37,000.
The Dodge is 47,000 sticker with a 4500 rebate bringing it to 42,500. The trucks are the same on the options. The GMC had folding power mirrors and I am insisting that the dodge has them too. I also asked for the 4.10 differential. He was looking into those and going to find that truck elswhere and have it shipped here in one day he says.
The large difference is the diesel and GMC has 72 month zero percent interest and Dodge has 36 month zero percent interest.
From this forum I have learned that I may be better off with a diesel so I can pull my trailer on mountain roads (6% grade). Yes, I can do it with less, but the deals are sweet right now.

Ellie, while these sound like good deals, be aware that the New diesels are not getting the great fuel economy that earlier ones were seeing. Also with the new emission equipment the manufacturers have been struggling with some issues. Personally I would go shopping for a 06 or early 07 with the 5.9L Cummins. There should be some really great deals on them right now and there is way less emission junk on them to deal with. Just a thought? Besides you could save a bundle on sales tax and depreciation over a new one.
Again, I am assuming that this new truck would be a Laramie, single rear wheel?
