I keep getting emails saying that a relative of mine has died leaving me untold millions, or that I've won the lottery in (name a place) and I have millions waiting for me. Naturally, I've never responded to these spam delicacies, but is there any way that I can keep from getting them? My spam filter sometimes puts them in the spam folder, but frequently does not. Since they are never from the same person, I can't set up a filter (I think I can't anyway) that would stop these from me ever seeing them. Does anyone have any advise?

Set up a rule with some of the common phrases in the email , have it moved to your spam folder and that should do it.

If you figure it out please let me know, I keep hearing from the former deposed King of Nigeria.
Seriously though, what I do is I have my main account for family, friends and trusted sites. I use a Gmail account for all others, the Gmail does a very good job about sending Spam to the Spam folder and not to my inbox. I just let Gmail pop my main pop3 account, been working great for me for a couple of years.

Set up rules in your email program. Very simple.

Take a look at Ella for Spam
It's a free (and a paid version) of software that filters your email after it arrives in Outlook - not as good as filtering on the mail server but pretty good at cleaning your InBox - take a few days to learn about what you consider good and bad and is then 99% effective.

If it's so simple, why don't you describe the process so that we will all know.

I am using Bellsouth.net and I set my preferences to ONLY allow email addresses that I have listed in MY address book. I do have spam folder for all other and can read them, or delete them.
