What can you tell me about some cabins to stay at around Black Hills South Dakota? We have a family of 4 and then our friends have 4 in their family as well so we need two by each other.
Thanks!

Try the "Happy Holiday RV and Resort". I haven't been there but I will be next week for a family reunion of sorts. They've got RV sites, cabins and a motel all within short distance of Mount Rushmore, etc. Hope this helps.

I stayed at Happy Holiday 3 years ago. Nice folks running the place, but the layout is horrible. A wide main road, then very narrow roads off to each side at a 90 degree angle, followed by narrow sites off these roads, again at a 90 degree angle. The first site at each row end has a picnic table with a shelter over it, the full length of the site, then they park the Class As on the end of each row. The day I left, I had to pull thru 3 empty sites in front of me to get to an opening without Class As parked on the ends, so I could make the turn out in my Class C.
The Mt. Rushnore KOA has a much better layout and they have cabins, of course. I've not stayed ther, but I think Rafter J has cabins as well. Many folks on this forum have stayed there and rave about it. Both the KOA and Rafter J are much closer to Mt. Rushmore.

Many years ago we rented a cabin at Legion Lake inside Custer State Park. Back then, they were OK, but I don't know about now. Might be worth checking into, since it would be fairly close to Mount Rushmore.

Yes I highly recommend Rafter J in Hill City centrally located so you can spoke off, and the road to the Needles highway is right outside their south entrance. Stayed there 5 days a week and a half ago. I have been there four times now.

We were at the KOA this spring and they have lots of cabins with many next to eachother. They also have upscale lodges to rent that can accomodate larger families. Nice place! I would go there again!

Love Rafter J Bar. But with kids, if you want to keep them busy consider KOA. Rafter J is beautiful with a pool and breakfasts. But KOA has horses, shops, stores, food, and kids, kids, kids.

They now have camping cabins and electric sites in some of the campgrounds in Custer State Park. Check their internet site for information.
