We just got a new Ford truck, and hubby wants to change from the slider hitch he has. We're towing a 14,000 trailer if maxed, any suggestions? It's a long bed.

I loved my 20K Reese. Had to trade to a Super glide due to short bed, which of course you will not need. If you are going to be taking the hitch out, you may want to look at something different from the Reese, as it left two rails in the bed. I like the super glide as it leaves nothing in the bed. A lot of people love the B&W, I believe that is the brand. You might look into it. I bet you will get a lot of opinions. Buy quality, and I'm sure you will be happy. Pullright seems to be top quality.

I have 2 PullRites. One is a 20.5K Super 5th and the other is 18K SuperGlide. They are both installed with the Pull Rite super rails. Take the hitch out and remove the rails and just 4 holes left in the bed. I have had Reese and B&W in the past but prefer the Pull Rites.

This is IMO

I have a hijacker and love it. There really is no way to not have it hitched, if the lever is in then it is fully hitched and you will not drop your trailer. The one exception to this is if you were to high-hitch it....

Take care

Hi:
We use a gooseneck hitch which allows a completely flat deck when not hooked up. On my unit, the pin unlocks and comes out too in ten seconds. No hassles with where to store a fifth wheel hitch.
A Gooseneck adapter bolts to the fifth wheel pin on the trailer.
Installation is almost identical to a standard 5th hitch as far as the under deck portion is concerned. But when that is finished, all you can see in the deck is the small underdeck pin attach plate which is covered by a refrigerator magnet type of flat dust cover.
When I drop my RV, I immediately have 100% of my bed available, and when hooked up, I have much more deck space available because of the small size of the gooseneck.
Clean and simple and it's been doing a great job for us for many years. Numerous types and brands are available.

I agree with Kenneth Woster, if you have a long bed you do not need a slider or any other fancy type of hitch, since the connection point is already far enough back to avoid collision with the cab of your truck when backing at extreme angles. If you do not want the clutter of a 5th wheel hitch in the bed of your truck when you are not towing, I would also recommend the B & W Companion Hitch or the Colibert Free Ride System, both of them are 5th wheel hitches, but are based on gooseneck systems, which allow for quick and easy removal when not in use and leave the bed of your truck clean. With regard to the recommendation that you convert to a gooseneck system, I would point out that many 5th wheel manfactures strongly frown upon this idea and may even attempt to void their warranty if damage should occur while towing in that configuration. In addition, you are not saving a lot of money this way as the cost of a gooseneck adapter, to go with the gooseneck hitch that you also have to purchase, is not a whole lot less than the cost of the 5th wheel Companion or Colibert Free Ride, which attach to the gooseneck system. Both of these systems are advertised in Trailer World and many other publications. If having a clean deck when not towing is not a worry, almost any of the American made 5th wheel hitches will work fine. Remember, with a long bed truck you will not need a slider or similar device. Good luck & happy camping.

Be SURE that Heartland will warrant your rig before going to a gooseneck. I saw a Landmark, beautiful rig, with a loose front cap being pulled with a GN. The seams were open 3/8" to 1/2" where the front cap was attached.

Using a gooseneck hitch in the truck with a fifth wheel hitch unit attatched to the gooseneck is not the same thing as using a gooseneck pinbox adaptor on a fifth wheel trailer. Go to the B&W website to find out how a gooseneck hitch can be safely used to pull any fifth wheel trailer with their Companion fifth wheel hitch attatchment.

Thanks for the link. Now I understand a little better. Rig I saw had a Trailair with the inflatable donuts and a GN adapter bolted to it.
