Do I read the rules right, you need an admission pass/permit to enter the park plus the camping fee, but my Federal Golden Access Pass will be accepted in leiu of the State Pass? HUH?

Yes besides the camping fee there is another fee.....either you can buy a daily fee or a season pass that can be used all season in any State park. Even Wi. residents have to pay the extra fee. It's a bit cheaper for us...but still have to pay the fee. Golden Access Pass does not apply.

$10 bucks a day for non-resident, so if you go for 2 nights, thats $20 on top of your campsite fee.

Other states also have "user fees" too, Minnesota and Kansas are ones that come immediately to mind. It would be nice to find a list of states that charge "user fees, taxes"

Isn't it like 20 bucks for a seasonal pass? I still think Wisconsin State Parks are a great deal - of course I don't have to go that far to get to em!
Obviously others feel the same way. A lot of the parks you have to book sites 11 months in advance!

I don't mind paying State Park Fees, but I wish Wisconsin would change their annual State Park Sticker expiration date. It is only good for the calendar year regardless when it is bought. Example: bought in July, only good until Dec 31st of that year.
In Minnesota, the annual State Park Sticker expires one year from the date bought.

$35 non-resident. If I were a frequent WI camper I would go that route. But I'm only there for camping at STate parks maybe one weekend a year? If I go more I'll do the annual pass. BTW I agree, the calendar year business bites. They do their fishing license the same, tho right?

Texas State Parks, too, have a daily, per person fee in addition to the camping fee. We purchase the annual Park Pass which pays for itself in one or two camping trips. They cover everyone in your vehicle and are good for one year, not just the calendar year. (You can actually get 13 mo use out of them if you purchase them at the beginning of the month you're going to first use it and then it doesn't expire until the end of that same month the following year.) Go to Texas State Parks for all the info you will need!

We have gotten pretty good useage from an annual Wisconsin SP pass. I think it's 35 bucks? I agree that having the sticker expire at the end of the CALENDAR year cuts down some on the value of the pass in our case, but I guess it's not the end of the world.

We stayed at four SPs in Wisconsin last year, and the total number of DAYS we were in the parks was 23 paid site days. So, the annual pass comes out a LOT less expensive that the daily rate in that case.

What I would like to see in Wisconsin is better access roads and larger level sites and trimmed trees and such so those of us with sumthin larger than a pop-up can use the parks more often. We like the parks better than " RV resort" type places BECAUSE they are usually in the woods or on a lake and the sites are spaced better, etc..... but we do find it difficult to use the parks as much as we would like just due to the simple fact that there are not enough "class A " type sites to be accessed and available.

We like Wyalusing SP and also Governor Dodge a lot... but both those parks only have a few sites suitable for a real tall 40' RV or larger. We've stayed at both a couple times and had an enjoyable stay, but it's a bit dicey gettin through the tree limbs and brush sometimes. Darned good thing we ain't SISSIES ....

;-))
