Hello. We received an e mail offer to stay at a private membership resort for 3 days and 2 nights at no charge at a place near our home. The name of the 0outfit is Coast to Coast Resorts. I checked their website and they have resorts throughout the United States. Are any of you members and if so what is their angle? I guess they charge a membership fee and I also am guessing it runs into the thousands of dollars to join. Any of you folks have thoughts on this?
In most cases they are giving you the time at a resort to sell you a membership in that resort. Usually several hundred to several thousand dollars. Then pay yearly dues from about $100 to maybe $500 per year. On top of that you need to keep up a membership in Coast to Coast, that is around 80 dollars a year. So look closely at what is being offered and add up all of the costs. Now figure out how many times you will use the membership. We found that a lot of the Coast to Coast campgrounds were out of the way. We dropped ours due to $550 a year dues and 13 dollars a night fees.
I don't know anything about Coast to Coast, but do some research. Many of the memberships cost several thousand dollars. You really need to travel a lot, and the club must have CG's where you want to go, in order for it to be worth the money.
Funny this comes up, We just got home from a free 3 night 4 trip over the 4h of July at Thousand Trails in Orlando, very nice campgound. Would definately sign up 1 if I had the extra money. and 2 if we had the time to camp that much.
the deal was nation wide free camping at thousand trails camp grounds, 10 weeks free in their cabins. (i think one a year), then 10 dollars a night at and rpi camprgound nation wide, and half price for the first 3 days at out door world campgournds. also time share condos world wide for any where between 199 abd 699 for 7 nights. all for the price of 18,000 pluse 498 a year.
then they have other packages all the way down to a regional one. which is what I may have done. it is 3000 and 498 a yr. 3 thousand trails campgrounds and the same rpi and outdoor world.
Just what we ran into this past weekend.
Every trip is as exciting as the first!!!

I've been in C2C for years. They're great but don't buy a membership through them. You can get one as a resale from someone who is trying to sell theirs at a much better rate. We paid $295.00 + yearly dues of $79.00. Copy this link, http://www.campgroundmembershipoutlet.com/
Join Passport America for $44/yr and get half price camping at thousands of CG across the country. Most run at $12-15 a night after the discount. PPA is the only subscription CG service that makes any sense to me. Of course we think of a CG as a place to park the RV while we do things in the area and do not think of a CG as a destination in itself.
If you are thinking about Thousand Trails I would urge you to search the forums before sending them any money, there seem to be a LOT of very upset ex-members.
they are not a rip... the are a closed reciprocal agreement type of park...
the benefit to the park, is to showcase the park and to be able to offer their members low cost camping...
you must be a member in a affiliate park, or what is your home park (cost varies by park) and the C2C membership fee... I am not sure of the current price... thousand trails is some what similar...
as said you can buy a used membership from people that no longer use theirs for almost nothing, but you still need to have a home park...
they get a bad rap form people that buy without understanding what they are getting into...
you should not take the free time if you are the type that can't say no, but then later blame them for pressuring you... they are good at what they do and have years of practice...
if you do buy a home park membership make sure you understand the entire contract, especially the cancellation parts of it, and the sale or transfer of it when you no longer need it...
they are like anything else... if you use it, it is worthwhile... the more you use it the better...
I have belonged to C2C for years, and have membership in three home parks now... I use all of the home parks at least ten weeks a year or more and have used C2C,and C2C good neighbor parks and Passport America parks extensively... the last time I figured it all out, my average nightly cost for camping was just over three dollars per night... most of the parks are not right off the interstate, but that is just fine with me...

Go for the free trip. But be prepared for a long boring day of bull. Our sales man kept us for 3 hrs. He said we had to stay for at least 3, but at that time if we told him we weren't interested, he would let us go. I agree that it would not be a bad deal, but find someone selling thiers privately for a lot less money.
I know you didnt specifically ask about Thousand Trails...but..
I know a couple folks who use TT Hershey, PA as their main location and are starting to have issues with the location. They dont know if its just this location or TT all around...but TT seems to be pushing more heavily for the Seasonal sites making it more and more difficult for the weekender to find a decent site at the CG.
