My livingroom A/C just stopped working recently, I was up in NH so took the rig to CampingWorld in Chichester NH and explained the A/C in the lvrm does not work, just clicks then hums. I said it was the 31 on the control panel. And would they check the bedroom A/C while they were up on the roof since it seems to work fine but if they see anything please let me know. They had it for a week, I picked it up with them saying they replaced a capacitor, the insurance campany CSP picked all but $200 deductible. (How could it cost so much for a capacitor?) I paid, did not test it and left. That was about 5 weeks ago, Friday I went camping for the first time since the repair and started up my A/C in the livingroom and ahoh, NO A/C just the click and humm. I called yesterday over to the Camping World service and from what I can tell the service writer wrote FRONT A/C when I said #1 and they repaired the A/C in bedroom that WORKED and NEVER looked at the livingroom A/C. That is my suposition since the writer used the worked Front as the livingroom but when I asked him why he was saying Front when I said Livingrom he said "Well that is what I call it"
The bedroom A/C did not need anything to my knowledge and the livingroom definitely did not work but the mechanic obviously did not even try both A/Cs since he would have seen that it was #1 and I had left the Control panel on #1 and on Cool so they would automatically see it is not working.
Now I have to drive about 75 or miles to get back up there for them to do the work that was supposed to be done but was not.
I am so disappointed, I had thought leaving it at Camping World would be a no brainer and that the CPS was owned by same mother company and they would be able to come to pricing etc without problems. Now what is CPS going to say??? It is their company that messed up so they will probably stand behind it or at least I hope they will but who pays my diesel fuel bill to pull it back up and back for something that should have been done in the first place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Disappointed

Your best bet in RV repair is to find a local shop who you can trust, talk to, and have competent employees. Camping World does not fall into that category.

I would think they would have walked you through the repair when you picked it up? It's a shame we have to think this way but when ever I have something done I pretty much expect a problem so I double check everything. I also try to talk to who ever is doing the work just to see if I want to change my mind ahead of time.
Hope they can make it up to you some how?

So..Do you think the front AC did need a capacitor? or did they just want to charge you for something?

I'll bet I won't see your story in the CSP junk mail they keep sending me.

how can they charge you for a repair when nothing was wrong with the one they said they worked on to begin with, they must have checked it first to see if there was a problem ,sounds more like a rip off to me.you would think they would have called you at least to double check with you since it worked.

Take the make and model number of the AC unit, buy a capacitor and replace it yourself. It just plugs in and you can't get it wrong. Low voltage will smoke the capacitor. You will see that the old one was hot and that is what caused it. Capacitors run about $20.

We had friends that waited 3 weeks for them to install new tires on a 1 year old Keystone as a warranty repair. I would say if they have a hard time changing tires then anything electrical is far beyond their reach.

Get a local RV tech to perform this.

We had our AC repaired at camping world too. Our rig was out of warranty so we stopped at CW on our way home. The unite was freezing up. We could hear ice fall off when it shut off. CW said it was the freeze switch and replaced it. They parked our rig out side,so we couldn't check it until we got home. When we checked it at the house and it still didn't cool and it tripped the AC breaker in the panel.(in the fifth wheel)

We brought it back to our dealer and the AC unite had to be replaced. Our AC was a Dometic and they covered the parts and we payed the labor.

wayne tw is right, I'd find someone close by. When my fridge went out, I called an AC shop and they covered it under warranty. They were not an RV business but dealt with Dometic and Coleman all the time.

With that said, you will have a hard time getting them to pay for your diesel however it doesn't hurt to ask. Something they might be more willing to do is give you a credit in their store and I'd ask for $250. To them its a $125-150 expense and odds are you will spend a little more than that so I"d press them on it.

Or fix it yourself and know it was done right... and save a few bucks.

I hope that you'll check operation of any repairs done B-4 leaving the shop next time. This is NOT a dig....quite the opposite! I make it a point to have the Service Manager walk me through the repairs...show me the old parts...and lastly, (when at all possible), check the operation.

I wish you the best of luck with your hassle(s)...enjoy the journey..
