Anyone know the torque setting of the wheel lugs on the duals and front?

Call Safari Monday - Friday and they will tell you.

It will help if you have your VIN number so they can look up your exact coach.

I know that it will be over 130 foot pound of torque that my F-350 uses. It all depends on the size of the lug nuts and studs. My F-350 and current F-53 (equal to the F-550) use 9/16" studs rated at 130 foot pounds.

If you are on the roadside and need to tighten them tonight, I would suggest using 150 foot pounds and then retorque them when you get the correct measurement.

Fred.

The P30 with 19.5 wheels is 175 foot pounds for what it is worth. I agree with Fred's 150 pound suggestion will keep the wheels from falling off any time soon.

Mine torque to 450 ft pounds on a diesel pusher which I think is pretty standard.

With your 1996 Safari, I would think it had the regular "cone" shape lug nuts and probably 150 ft lbs. I would suggest that you call Safari with yout VIN number and get the right figure directly from them. In later model years they started using what they call "Hub Piloted" Lugs, lugs wirh a flat washer on them, and these systems require 450 to 475 Ft Lbs. Here is a link to Safari which shows these lug nuts and how to tighten them. Good reading to understand the difference.Hub Piloted lugs
Another article about Hub Piloted lugs can be good reading for those who have these type of Lug Nuts found on many models built in the 2000's. Hub Piloted

You should call Safari as others have suggested. Ours have to be torqued to 450 ft lbs. It's marked right on the nut. 150 or 175 would only invite "issues" if yours happen to require 450.

Same for ours - according to the chassis manual.

Depends on the wheels! BOTH of my P30 were 115-135 lbs of torque

Monaco said 450LBS torque. A tire shop that only deals with semi truck tires said use a 4 foot cheater bar. Push on it till you can't anymore. That is the best way since no one has a high pound torque wrench. Also it makes it easier to remove with the cheater bar.

Thanks for all your help.

They make a torque wrench that goes up to 600 ft lbs but they are quite expensive. I am fortunate to work for a company that has one and I can borrow it when I need it, but if I need it on the road, I call road service. I do carry a socket, flex handle and a 4 foot cheater bar for use in an emergency. 115 lbs of force on a 4 foot bar should give you 460 ft lbs.

Also read the link below about putting a couple drops of oil between the washer and nut on the "Hub Piloted" lug nuts before you torque them.
