The first two palindromes I ever learned were "Hannah" and "Otto". We read a short story in 3rd grade called "Hannah is a Palindrome".

Check out "Uncle John's Slightly Irregular Bathroom Reader", (17th edition), the story on page 420, "A Day In Palindromia". There are 52 palindromes in the three page story. Some have been listed here already.
The full list is on page 518.
I'm too lazy to type that much, and I don't want to risk a charge of copyright infringement.
