Last year I purchased a 24ft. 1992 Wilderness.
When taking a shower I stop the water flow at the shower head.
When I turn the shower head back on I get a blast of cold water
no matter how short of a time the flow has been stopped.
Anyone have any ideas why this is happening and what I can do to correct it?

P.S. The water heater was replaced this year. Both old and new do the samething.

I think that is just the nature of the beast. When you turn the shower back on, point the head away from you until it warms up.

it is designed that way to keep from scalding you when turning it back on... although I had one the did just that. trust me cold is better...
I would have thought that since it doesn't shut off completely, that the mixing of the water would have prevented that...

Sheesh! I wish mine did a blast of cold water. I get burnt if I dont turn it away from where I am standing when I turn it back on.

Just point it at the wall, turn water back on, wait for temp to stabilize, continue shower = Problem Solved

I read the post that StuartW enclosed in his post.
I was just wondering if a simple inline check valve would do the trick along with removing the by-pass valve (I winterize by blowing out the pipes with a
compressor.)

Here is my analogy of what causes the cold blast of water when showering and turning off the water at the shower head.
Trailer tubing is usually all plastic. Plastic tubing expands when pressurized. Hot plastic tubing expands more. When running the water it relieves some of the pressure in the tubing and it contracts slightly. When the flow is shut off at the head the tubing expands again. Since the hot tubing expands more, some of the cold water backs up into the hot water tubing through the shower shutoff valves. Also while the shower head is shut off it is probably trickling out the shower head as most of the shower heads installed in trailers do not completely shut off. Since the seated check valve is restricting the flow in the hot water side, only cold water continues to trickle out the shower head filling up the hose with the dreaded blast of cold water just waiting to be loosed upon you.
Also when the flow of water starts to go into the water heater tank again it still has to get the water in the hot water line flowing again. The flow of water has to lift the spring loaded check (poppet) off of its seat which is restricting the flow of hot water. All contribute to the delay in returning the water to your preset comfort level.
I have been thinking of ways to stop the cold blast and will probably replace the shower head with one that will completely shut off. It should solve the problem or at least greatly reduce the amount of cold blast.
In my old trailer the water heater bypas was 2 3 way valves with a bypass hose connecting them and the shower head would completely shut off. I never had any trouble with having a blast of cold water when turning off the shower head while using that shower.

I get the cold blast, too. A friend has a Pace Arrow MH and he gets the hot blast. I'll keep turning my shower head toward the wall until the water gets warm again. Hot water is WAY worse than cold.
