I am looking to take my RV to a cooler area close by such as the mountains. I am hoping to get some suggestions on a good campground with hook ups. Thinking about some where around the Big Bear area, let me know!

You will probably get a lot of replies for Big Bear, but I'll throw in my 2cents for the Frazier Park area. If you go up the 5 just past Gorman and turn off on Frazier Mountain Park road you can follow it all the way to Mt. Pinos. There are several campgrounds there, the largest being McGill. There are many astronomers who go there because the sky is so dark. The campground is at 7500' and has 70 sites. Here's a link.

There are some good hikes--especially up to the top of Mt. Pinos. It's easy and has spectacular views out over the Condor habitat.

My vote for campgrounds in the Big Bear are for either Serrano near the lake or Heart Bar on Hwy 38. I've heard the MWD campground is pretty good if you can get into it. We stayed at Barton Flats before and that wasn't too bad. The only problem with the Big Bear campgrounds is the roads to them, especially the ones like Barton Flats and Heart Bar.

The OP is looking for hookups in the mountains, and those are pretty scarce -- Serrano has them, and there is at least one other in Big Bear -- but it is expensive. Other than that, I think that everything else is just campgrounds (no hookups) or boondocking.
