We have not had the smoke in the South San Joaquin Valley for two weeks. The wind must have changed direction. This morning I could see the smoke from the Piute fire in Kern County blowing towards the North West. It has now gotten thick enough to yellow out the sun. It was flowing straight east into the high desert. How are the rest of you folks faring?

Some evenings it's almost like fog around here. We're going to Morro Bay Thursday for a few days. Wonder if the smoke from the Santa Barbara and Big Sur fires are visible there? Hope not. I could use some fresh air.

No smoke where I am, except for the campfire!!!
My folks live in Santa Clarita and they were telling me in their tract home developement that people were shooting off illegal fireworks all around them on the 4th. What a bunch of idiots!!! The hillsides are all dry and it wasn't a year ago they were being evacuated due to brush fires. My mom says the smoke is clear down by them as well. It's sad but the nature of the beast when living in that area. Same as the mud slides on Malibu, and earthquakes along the San Andreas. Face it CA is just a dangerous place to live. Glad I got out of there years ago. I hope y'all are okay and free from danger from these fires. I heard this morning that on the fire by Big Sur containment isn't expected until the end of the month.

Not bad here today with a North breeze. FEMA is now in charge of the fire business $$$. Their people were told they could be here into November.

Bay area is no better with Big Sur fire and now a house fire started 5 acre fire in Crow Canyon I hear. Looks like fog or haze but smoke and getting old! Almost 3 weeks now dirty smokey air with a few good days in there depending on winds.

I do feel bad for the Central Valley. Bad enough you collect all the dust and pollution from Bay Area and LA, but add these fires.. I do feel for you all!

Son is on the Piute fire and said it blew up on them pretty good today and with the prevailing winds here comes the smoke again. They have been doing structure protection in Cortez canyon and it got pretty rough for them for a spell. We have it all the way up here in Tulare. As far as Morro Bay I called home the other day and they say it is on and off. One morning they said it was really weird. smoke AND fog mixed together. 102 out today with 34% humidity. Yuck! tomorrow 107! Whew!

For those interested below is a link to a web cam on Breckenridge mountain looking at the Piute fire. I've been on many fires in this area and it is flat nasty terrain! The cam refreshes up until about 7 p.m. every day beginning about 7 a.m.
