I have a 96 Beaver Monterey (34 feet)and it is time for me to purchase some new tires. This is the first time that I have purchase RV tires 255/79R-22.5/16 since we purchased this used coach. I am looking at replacing all 6.
One of the local tire stores that deals mostly with large trucks suggested that the rear tires may not need to balanced, thereby, reducing the overall costs. But they were more than willing to perform the four additional balances.
I have read the thread about balancing using beads/powders but cannot find anything about my concern.
Is not balancing the 4 rear tires a normal practice with motorhomes?
I am concerned because I have never not had all of my car tires balanced when I purchase new tires.
Any constructive advice will be most appreciated.

I don't balance the rear tires. It doesn't cost any more to go back and have them balanced later if needed. If they mount the tires with the dot inline with the valve stem then put the wheels on right they should not need to be balanced.

I used to work in fleet maintenance on city coaches. We never balanced the rears, only the front if there were a vibration at speed. When we did balance the front it was the whole assembly wheel, tire, hub and drum on the unit.

I've had mine balanced with powder, not sure if it was strictly necessary but I thought heck, why not? I got the powder at cost as part of the 'deal' - about $8 a bag I think with the valve.

Take a look at Centramatic based in Ft. Worth, TX. They are a dynamic balancer and once installed at NO cost you'll never have to balance again.

We bought our coach new. I added the Centramatic dynamic balancers on the front wheels and it made quite a difference. Last year I replaced all 6 tires and added the Centramatic to the rears. The coach rides very smoothly now, way better than before. I would recommend the investment, it's worth it!

I always balance all six tires. It DOES make a difference in ride quality.
