Question for any or all residents of Indiana: Has anyone received their 2008 personal property tax bill for this year yet? I received my assessment form with my TT on it last February-March and sent it back with confirmation of no changes this year. But I've been waiting for the actual bill. Anyone know what's going on, or did I just miss mine in the mail and maybe threw it away by accident and never realized I had it? So just wondering, has anyone else received them. I live in Hamilton County.

For all others, FYI, Indiana residents pay personal property tax on their RV. License plates are relatively cheap, but there's no excise tax like on an automobile. But your county assesses a personal property tax on your RV and it can get pretty steep.

Our assessment forms were due by May 1 (Lake county). We haven't gotten any bills yet either, property or personal property. They were supposed to come out in May. By the way the bills are for 2007, this years bills are payable in 2009. I think the date each bill comes out is determined by the county assessor (within state guidelines).

We have yet to get ours, (Harrison). But I was reading in the Farm Bureau magazine some are lower some are not. Last year I missed the taxes, but we do not have anyone comes by anymore. I guess. But I am hopping to hide my TT. A friend of mine in Perry sold his Class B because of the taxes they wanted. With any luck they have it all figured out.

Still waiting in Vigo county for the property tax bill. I called the county treasurers office about three weeks ago and they didn't know when the bills would be mailed; said they were waiting on info from the state. I'm expecting a big decrease in the property taxes since the state sales tax went from 6 to 7%. Ha Ha.

I was told by rep in this area that they would be mailed in August. Also for what it's worth she told me that this will be the last year they will be mailed. They are going to start collecting when you renew your plates. As if the BMV needs one more thing to screw up!

I heard that next year we'd pay when we buy the plates.

No bills in Hamilton county yet either. Glad to hear the BMV is taking over next year, they can't be any worse than the assessor's office.

Haven't got mine either. Called county assessor and they said they were being delayed. No time frame given. They also said that they are overhauling the way the taxes are done and we may not have to file that form 101 in the future. I asked for details but she said that everything isn't finalized and she didn't know exactly what would happen.

The Indiana state government's attempt at property tax relief has created havoc for all county governments to provide real estate & personal property (RV, etc.) tax billings. The state set up another agency called the Department of Local Government Finance (better known as the DLGF) that was suppose to help implement these changes but they don't really know what they are doing and because of this it looks like we are going to have property tax deadline delays for at least the next 2 or 3 years.

When the public, the DLGF & our legislators finally figure out what this law really did, there will undoubtedly be amendments to the legislation causing further future delays in our tax billings. It is just too bad they didn't do away with property tax altogether as it can never be equitably administered which will provide additional fodder for legal action by farm & business interests.

By the way the above posts are correct in that RV's will be taxed at the BMV via excise taxes starting in 2009. Just remember that the personal property tax system collected a year after the fact and because of this we will be paying both excise and personal property taxes on our RVs in 2009.
