I'm considering adding a hitch to the back of the 5ver to pull a ATV to some property We have in Wyoming. What are the draw backs of towing this way. I'm looking at next summer. Thanks for your input

Hi,

At least you are starting with a dually truck, and all you really need now is a current commercial truck license, current medical certificate, and brakes on all of the trailers.

It also is a requirement to have a current log in the vehicle. It shows when your last sleep time was, when you need to stop your driving shift, and so on.

Here in Indiana it's legal to double tow and I've seen lots of 5ers with a single wheel axle utility trailers in tow. So, it can be done.

One thing you'll need to research are the laws of the state you are traveling through if you can double tow or not. And you will also need to keep the total length under a certain limit. There again, each state has it's own standard.

Depending upon your state, you may need to make sure the 2nd trailer is equipped with breaks and possibly a break-away break system too.

On thing you'll need to be aware of is sway on the 2nd trailer. But I've seen so many double tow rigs lately, they must have figured out ways to take care of all these things.

Length, sway, and breaks ... get that figured out and you'll be all set!

He lives in Utah and is towing to Wyoming. The requirements you are listing are for a commercial drivers license for towing double.

Do either of these two states require a commercial license for a RV double tow? Many states do not require a commercial license.

Its legal here up to 65' and I've done it some. I have to make sure to get fuel where I can pull thru, because I cant back up w/ 2 trailers. Also I have to turn a little wider. my second trailer has surge brakes. I dont have a cdl and dont think I need one, I guess I'll find out for sure if I get stopped.

Don't forget to take the HazMat and Air Brakes Test to add to your CDL. Sorry, couldn't help it. Life is too short to pull single.

Death is too long to tow double.

Sorry, I couldn't help it either.

We just take two trucks. DW drives one with the Tailmanor, DS drives the other one with the ATV trailer and DD and I get a free ride.

Nonsense. If you are commercial driving maybe, but certainly not for an RV.

Double tow allowed up to 65ft overall in Utah and Wyoming is 85ft.

There are some folks on here who will tell you that you need a commercial pilot's licence to ride a bicycle, just because they don't think you should ride a bike.
