they use soft copper bendable tubing for propane gas ,its natural gas you can not use copper tubing with.

Never heard of that, but I guess in NY could be in the code because of all the chemicals filtering in all over the state from the love canal & water ways.
Wouldnt be surprized if just about anything you could think of to use is aginst the code in NY.

I work for a municapality that serves customers with natural gas and we do use copper tubing to hook up heating systems hot water heaters stoves and dryers.

Fridge installed. Used a bbq grill hose to span the gap; it fit, now we'll see if it really works.. I'll post the update. I put in a Norcold 641, hope it's a good'n.

I have serviced and built RV's for many years and I now work at a HVAC supply store.
Copper can be used with propane or natural gas but the copper will eventually flake inside with natural gas and could cause an orifice to clog so with natural gas, you want to use black iron pipe and then use as short a run as possible to the appliance from the black pipe with the corrugated copper or stainless steel flex line. These flex lines are also available in stainless steel.
You DON'T want to use the flexable copper or stainless steel lines that are used on residential stoves or appliances in a RV!! I just went through this installing my Olympian Wave heater and I called my vendor that supplies us with these flexible copper lines and he confirmed my suspisions that they are NOT designed to hold-up under vibration and they are NOT to be used in a RV.
I suggest, as another has suggested, that you either extend the current line with soft copper or replace the line with the correct length.
