About 25 of us (counting children) will be at Top Sail in a couple of weeks and we have some questions from people who have experienced Top Sail in the past. Our camp sites will be in the area of #25 to #33 so how far will that put us from the swimming pool. ?? Other questions are: 1. What can we expect for BUG problems ?? 2. When the TRAM drops you off at the beach, how far a walk from that point to the actual beach?? 3. How far to the nearest WAL-MART and also to the nearest PUBLIX ??? 4. How far to the CATHOLIC church ??? The answer I am looking for is NOT Do A Search, but I would prefer answers from people who have been there. Thanks so much for your help - - - will be waiting for your help. oh I almost forgot - - - where would you suggest for seafood eating establishments that would handle a bunch of us (approx 25)??? Thanks again PJRACER

1. Bug's are not an issue. I sat out late into the evening with no problem at all.
2. The start of the tram area in the camping area to the beach is 7/10th of a mile to the beach. It's a good distance to walk. I would recommend either riding your bike or taking the tram, which picks up on the hour of every hour.
3. Publix is very close. About a mile or so to the west on Hwy 98. Walmart is actually IN Destin which will take you about 20 min or so to get too off Hwy. 98. It's actually right across the street from Henderson SP.
4. Can't help you with the church...sorry.
The area you are staying in is RIGHT NEXT TO THE POOL. You will see it right from your campsite. You couldn't get any closer.
Have a wonderful time and when are you going?

The tram drop off is a couple of hundred feet over a dune walkover to the beach. And I think that St Rita's in Santa Rosa Beach is the closest RC church, only a couple of miles away. Most of the really good restaurants that we go to are small to begin with. Good luck finding one that will be able to seat that many people at the same time. Use the Internet yellow pages and start calling to find one that has a reservable party room.

Capt Daves and or Louisiana Langiappe could hold that many. Go early and you should not have any problem. We will be there for the week of August 18th.

Yes, when the tram drops you off, the restrooms, outdoor showers and boardwalk to the beach are right there.
With a group that large, you will need to go early for whereever you are going to eat. I would suggest calling ahead and letting the resturant know you have that many people coming so they are ready for you.

We were in Site 27 about a week and a half ago. It was our first trip and we can't wait until next year. I second above no bugs and very close to the swimming pool. The tram starts at 9:00 am and runs every hour and then a last run at 7:30. Beware there were jelly fish every where around the 1st of July. Our favorite restaurants were Pompano Joe's on the beach in Destin. Also Fudpuckers in Destin. Food is ok at Fudpuckers, but the kids get to hold a live baby alligator. Also as many others have said Donut Hole for breakfast. This is just about a mile an a half down the road from Topsail. Also check out the Friday night family movie in the campfire circle. One last hint do not go to Walmart on Saturday evening. We stood in the check out line for an hour. Sunday morning Walmart was a ghost town. We discovered Publix on our last day. It's much closer.

Bugs are horrible, road to the beach is long, hilly and full of potholes waiting to gobble you up, boardwalk to the beach is probably a half mile and falling apart. No decent places to eat within a hundred miles. WalMart is on the other side of the world from Topsail and Publix - well what can I say. Tram is never on time and if it looks like rain they don't even run it.

Yellow Flies can be a big problem there, but there weren't any when I was there in late June. Believe it or not, but "Vanilla" Herbal essence spray wards off bugs and keeps you smelling nice at the same time.
Other than that, enjoy!!!
