I need advice regarding the converter which is a Magnetek, 7300 series, 45 amp. I will list a few comments.
I recently replaced my old battery...before replacing the battery it got so 1 of the 2, 30 amp fuses would blow. The converter has 2 fuses toward the top,the one near the word CONV.POS was the one blowing..if it was blown the 12 volt lights were very dim. I replaced the battery as it was old and I assumed the converter had to run too much and this is why the fuse would blow.

Now that the new battery is in, the 30 amp fuse on the other side, near a RED mark on the converter has blown twice. After replacing the fuse everything has worked fine...it has been 3 days. In trying to determine what may be wrong I used a digital volt meter and took these readings:
Battery disconnected via battery switch...reading 13.05
Battery connected... reading 13.00
Converter With battery only connected...12.8
Converter with shore power connected...13.75

I can tell the white ground wire has been hot due to discoloration and when I removed the bottom cover from the converter, there is a white covered item, bottom center of the converter which has also been hot, discolored.

Sorry for the long post, appreciate your help!

Those fuses are paralleled so when one blows they both should blow. Replace both fuses and your problem should be solved. If you just replace one, it will work but you have a 30 amp fuse instead of a 60 amp fuse, as the other fuse is still blown.

By the way the old battery had a shorted cell.. Those are called "Reverse Polarity Fuses" in the manual if I recall correctly.. And they do blow if you hook up backwards

But they are parallel so as to make one sixty amp fuse. Replace both of them.

You would replace both even though one has not blown? These are the 2 prong fuses in transparent plastic.
Thanks!

Hurricaner, wa8yxm thanks for your comments and help. BFL13 I sent a e-mail to the Parallax web site which you had sent to me. They responded this morning at 7:30 am...good service! They were very helpful...they indicated the same info. regarding the fuses. Even if one looks good it probably was not, change both.
Thanks again guys,
Weldon

Is the Parallax an aftermarket installation? If so, you may need to upgrade your existing wiring to a bigger gauge, like 2 or 4 gauge. The wiring between your converter and batteries.

Sounds like it was running the full 45 amps for quite a while into a shot battery.

Stacaz,
The converter is the original Magnetek 7300 series...I think Parallax bought Magnetek out. I may be wrong.
