There was an interesting story in the paper today about this couple, the ones who filed the lawsuit when their dog was mistakenly killed by the animal shelter locally.
It seems they moved from their house the middle of June because they could not afford the rent....and left behind 4 cats and a dog in the house when they moved! The animals were taken from the house by the police on July 2.
The landlord picked up the animals from the police the same day and placed them all with friends. It's amazing they survived in our Texas heat.
By the way, the couple had settled their $206,000 lawsuit for...$500.
I just hate people like that....why have pets, if you can't keep them, and you can't care for them. I am sooooo glad that they didn't get money from the shelter! It is obvious that they didn't really care about the animals.
Yes, I know, sometimes you have to move, and you have to leave your pets....but you find them homes!! You don't just leave them to fend for themselves. Lucky that the landlord found them.

What idiots! You can tell they were real pet lovers....not! Shame on them in more ways than one.

No, it really doesn't. The woman who spilled coffee on herself had third degree burns in an incredibly painful part of her body, requiring extensive medical care and months of recovery. And the company involved had been aware that this was a possibility... there had been similar incidents before her injury... and had decided not to take any action to reduce the risk of that type of injury.
I would never have realized, until watching a detailed report on that lawsuit, that a cup of coffee could do that kind of damage. I'm sure the woman who purchased the coffee didn't know either... but the company did know, and that's why they lost money in the lawsuit. That kind of "acceptable risk" decision making (meaning we'll consider lawsuits on this issue when we screw up someone's life a part of the cost of doing business) really pisses off juries.
And it is a far cry from someone making an honest mistake in the paperwork and putting down a dog that the owners couldn't be bothered to keep contained-- especially when it turns out that they abandoned the rest of their animals when they became inconvenient. As bad as that was, and it was bad, there was no real "injury" to the owners, since they clearly don't care about their animals, and it was a mistake, not a decision. They're lucky they got the $500 dollars, but I'm sure that was cheaper than defending a lawsuit.
