I have always used AmEx travelers checks in Britain and Europe as well as Canada and never had a problem using them. I can't speak for other types but AmEx seems to be almost "universal".

You shouldn't have any problem with travelers checks. Most, if not all, of the smaller towns along the road system will take them with no problem.

Sea Dog, hy would your credit card stop working? If you are concerned about the magnetic strip failing, that is not a problem because all they have to do is punch in the number by hand and off you go.
