I had a 'niagara' leaking on the toilet line (under/behind foot valve) when I didn't use a pressure regulator (while at home), but only a drip when the pressure regulator was used. Once I downloaded my toilet's manual, I was able to feel around back there and hand tighten - no more leaks.

I used to use one...shower did not have enough pressure for my wife and I, I took it off. Shower is better and no leaks or busted hoses or lines, been doing that about 3 years now...maybe I am lucky.

OK but were you using a decent watts type one or the elcheapo camping world special?

Been camping for now on 48 year, never had a regulator, nope not once.

Never saw anyone with busted hose, or hose flopping all over the ground.

Other than "my brother-in-law knows someone who knows somebody whose hose broke"

are there anyone who really has had problems? Be truthfully.
Yes, twice I have had the white hose rupture between the spigot and the RV from high pressure. How did I know it was high? I took out my gage after the fact and both times the pressure was in excess of 65#. Since the 2nd time, I will NOT be without a good regulator, not el cheapo from CW or WM.

I don't wear a belt and suspenders just because the belt may break.

one other thing, you're better off putting the regulator at the spigot to protect the white hose as well as the camper. Like was mentioned in an earlier post, I've been at campgrounds early when there we very few people there and the blow off valve was going off a lot. A couple hours later when more people showed up and were tied into the water supply, the pressures came down.

A little insurance goes a long way
