On the other hand... most RV constructions techniques look like a DIY set up.

Like everything...including roof rafters...being held together with staples?

The wires could be for sensors or a heating mat for the water tank.

Yes the duct is for winter use, mine has the same thing. In our MH the tank sits in a plywood box that is hung from the frame. Spray foam both inside and outside. Tank is fastened inside that. Duct is to help keep the water from freezing. Mine also has another thing that puzzled me for a bit, two heater hoses from the engine bay go into the side of the plywood box. Turns out they have a loop inside the tank and lets engine coolant circulate through it. There is a valve so in the summer it does not allow coolant into the tank. I found it when a plastic 'y' broke when I was on the highway and lost all the antifreeze. Mine also has the copper loop for the hot water tank so when you are driving it keeps hot water hot although in my case the hot water tank got changed at some time and the new one was not made for the engine heater so it is sitting in the open behind the water heater and keeps the cupboard rather toasty.

Thanks for all the answers....never even thought about the sensors.

Now another question...on the filler tube you can see a "hold down" strap...which is no longer stapled to the floor. How important is that? Should i re-secure it?

Oh, yeah...1 more. The trailer is currently winterized with antifreeze. I need to replace the city water hook up...threads are pretty much shot. If i disconnect the old one right now...would i wind up with fluid all over?...or would that require the pump to kick on?

It's not that important. I'd screw it down but use a very short screw. You wouldn't want to screw into the tank.

You might get a little liquid out of it but not but a very little. Just make sure the pump IS off.
