I agree with you guys completely. While the driver was obviously at fault, there is no way that awning should have fallen so easily. I shudder to think about what would have happened had another vehicle been under there.
Thank goodness no one was hurt.

There is NO question the support columns and laterial bracing was completely inadequate for that awning structure! A 5'er should have never been able to bring the whole thing down!!! Based on that video, I'm totally convinced a strong wind, heavy rain or even a little minor earth quake would have brought that structure down. All I can say is everyone is very lucky it came down the way it did. Had another customer been parked under it, they probably would not have survived; you can beat all the parties would have been sued ( including the building contractor, architectual firm). Sorry it happened to this guy, but who knows, maybe he actually saved lives by bringing it down and before it potentially came down on a family during a high wind gust day.

I don't know about you guys, but I wouldn't have tried to drive up to the ATM. If I need to go thru a place with a canopy, I alway park the rig and don't risk it. I'm hoping he was inexperienced and had a brain fart.

All I can say is WOW!
I have pulled through some tight spots, as a matter of fact I have pulled through some spots that look somewhat similar to what he drove through.
Here is the link to the story:WOW
Glad him and his son got out.
I seen something a little similar in Germany back in the 80's, we were on a Tank drivers course and the tank in front of us ran up the side of a Opal (German Chevy) and peeled off the side of the car like it was paper. Looks eerily the same..............
