My wife and I are fulltimers and presently are spending the summer in Fairbanks, AK.

We've been official South Dakota residents since March of this year and are using MyDakotaAddress.com

We had no problem getting our Driver's Licenses and insurance using this address, but does anyone have any experience obtaining a Concealed Carry permit using a mail forwarding address?

The South Dakota state website says they just require you to fill out a form, pay your $10.00 and waited for your permit while they run the background checks.

Has anyone doe this yet?

Best bet is to call the SD State Police (or who ever runs their program) and ask.

Moderator note......I WILL NOTallow this thread to go south

The OP asked a good, legitimate question. If you feel you must question or attack him, do it somewhere else, not here on my watch

Since you are fulltimers and presumedly travel a lot, the only thing I can say to the OP is that a concealed weapons permit from one state is not necessarily valid in other states, so even if you were legal in your domiciled state, you may not be in any other state. Also, since you are now in Alaska, you need to be very aware of the gun laws in Canada as you cross into that country.

A permit to carry a weapon is not like your drivers's license.

This is a good question and I have wondered also what would be involved. I hace a ccw in a state that SD recognizes the permit as valid in the state and was wondering if presenting that permit may simplify the process?

Any previous dealings in someone going through this would be very helpful and informantive

Thanks. I'm aware how CCW permits work. South Dakota has reciprocity with 20 other states with no classes or tests necessary.

I just shipped my handguns to Alaska before we entered Canada and will ship them back when we leave.

We are also SD residents (Americas-Mailbox.com). They helped me get a CCW permit...no problem getting it.

Ok,you have to go to the sheriffs office in the county in which you "live"and fill out the request form. On it you will have to answer some questions concerning your past history. I think you should be able to figure out what they are going to ask. You will also have to supply a "fixed" address. This can be the campground where you are staying at the time you fill out the request.

You will have to wait 5 days while they run a background check on you.

After 5 days, you go back to the sheriffs office and if you are approved, they will take your picture and your money and give you a temporary permit.

The paperwork will then be mailed to the governor who signs your permit. It then will be mailed to you.

The end.

Thanks for the great info.

I take it that by my "fixed address" you're saying not to use my PMB address?
