Wouldn't hurt, anything can happen. I always say if it was made by man it can break.

Using a surge protector cetainly wouldn't hurt anything, but I would not be too concerned running it without one. I would not feel the same however, with a non-inverter type generator. Since the 2000i is an inverter type, the result is a nice smooth clean sine wave.

You won't get much of a surge out of a 2000w Honda generator. It is really only putting out 1800w, it goes up to 2000w only for short periods then the unit will reset itself and shut off. A 13.3 Amp surge shouldn't hurt anything.

I use a surge protector when running the generator (Honda 3000si) if the A/C is on.

I put my surge guard on when running the generator for only one real reason... if I run out of gas. The surge guard will cut off the circuit when voltage drops too low and won't go back on for a couple minutes once stabilized. Has only happened once because I didn't fill the genny tank. At the end it surged a couple times as it ran out of fuel.

Other than that the power from the inverter generators is very clean.
