Looking at different hikes in Yellowstone when we head that way in a couple of weeks what are some good ones?
One I saw was Union Falls, it was a 15 mile hike total & from the description sounded interesting. My biggest concern is how far is it from Fishing Bridge?
Other ones Hellroaring trail, Mount Washburn, Canyon Rim south, any other must do hikes?
Thanks

There are many good hikes, just depends how far you want to go how strenuous. Mt. Washburn is very good. We did go up and came back down the same way, but you can go up one way and down another. Another very short walk is watching Old Faithful from the other side. We thought it looked better from there. There is several more that we have done, I'll have to check our book. We were into the Mammoth-Gardiner, MT. area yesterday. It was just a beautiful day. Went up to Quake Lake today and nosed around.

The trail to Lone Star geyser is easy, but worth the trip. You get into a backcountry geyser basin that doesn't have the usual boardwalks, etc. Kind of a flashback to what it must have been like everywhere 100 years ago. Mt. Washburn is a great hike, esp. if the flowers are out.

Near Fishing Bridge is a short hike called Elephant's Back. It's uphill through the forest, but there's a great view from the top of the lake and park. Take a snack and rest awhile at the top and enjoy the view.

Keep in mind that you will be at altitude so before you take on any strenuous hikes give yourself a couple of days to adjust to the thinner air.

Thanks for reminding me about that. We have spent time in Estes Park so we know about altitude & as my mom always says, drink plenty of water.

Mystic Falls is worth doing. A Google search shows many good hikes in Yellowstone.

Shoshone Lake past the Lonestar Geyser is a fabulous geyser basin. You can hike out of Old Faithful.
My favorite and it's a long hard hike, Heart Lake to the top of Mount Sheridan then back to the road. Best view in the park.

How about the Observation Point Trail at Old Faithful? It’s a 2 mile loop trail that will take you up (160 vertical feet) via switchbacks to a great overlook of the Old Faithful area. It really gives you a different perspective of an eruption and the viewing crowd. While you at Old Faithful, don’t forget to check out the lobby of the Old Faithful Inn. It’s unbelievable.
Also be sure to walk the boardwalk at Old Faithful to Morning Glory pool, there are a lot of geysers along the way. It’s an easy walk and well worth it.

Don't forget about the guided Ranger Hikes as they are FREE! They have some pretty substantial ones this year. You can go to nps.gov and look for Yellowstone - Plan Your Visit - THings To Do. Look for the brochure to print out from your computer to plan before you get there.
They also have some amazing hikes that you pay $15 for. You can not reserve these in advance. You have to register at certain Visitor's Centers. These hikes are more vigorous than the typical ones.
Another idea would be around Garnet Hill - check with Rangers for bear activity.
Avalanche Peak - same
We've just spent two weeks in the Yellowstone area. You are more than welcome to check out our website for where we saw bears and other stuff. Look under the Adventures page.
Have fun!
