I have been looking at new GMC and Dodge Diesels. The Dodge salesman told me he would match a price and bottom line is that he couldn't do it.
Anyway, the GMC dealer just got in a 2006 Silverado 6.6 turbo diesel Crew cab. It has 33,000 miles on it and has towing package including extended mirrors. Has XM radio, and On Star.
Price is $24,00 and ends up $28,000 out the door. This includes a 4 year complete warranty for $2300.00. I wouldn't buy those, but with a used truck I feel more comfortable.
It was not detailed yet and they just put new tires on it. It is not a 4x4 but I can live without it. I didn't need a crew cab but can live with it.
The one thing I do want that it does not have is a 12V receptacle. I use at least three when driving for GPS, MP3, and camera.
I think I will get more for the money with the used. What do you all think?
EDITED Thanks very much.. I bought it. I appreciate the advice.

Hi. I wont comment on the price due to the fact that I live in Canada
and prices vary huge from here to there. But I will say I have a 2006 GMC with the 6.6 L diesel and its a great truck. I have about the same amount miles on mine and Zero problems so far. well except for the steering shaft clunk clunk noise.. So ask to have that fixed up..its a TSB so they will fix it..
Good Luck

Mine is currently in the shop for the 4th time with the steering issue. Think the steering box may get replaced this time.

24K isn't that bad of a price if the truck presents itself well. Rather than trying to negotiate the price further, I'd take a stab at negotiating the extended service contract price. $2300 is a bit pricey for a vehicle that still has some factory powertrain warranty left on it.

Sounds like a lot of money to me but then I haven't checked new prices lately either.
I've always heard that the extended warranties are not worth the money. I bought my Dodge new for 30K even and did not get an extended warranty. However the last two cars we bought for daily drivers were used and both have extended warranties covering them until they are paid for.
I may be wasting my money but I do sleep better. The only time I ever had to use one was with a 76 Dodge pickup with full time 4X4. It was in 1979 and the front end went out. Was nearly 2K to fix (a lot of money back then) but I only paid 50 bucks.

I have to agree, that $2300 price is about 50% pure profit for the F&I guy and the dealership. Offer him $1500 for the warranty and take the truck at 24K and run. You will probably not regret it.

I have an 07 GMC with the 6.6 Duramax and love it....Hell with only 33k on the odometer I would buy it, it isn't even broke in yet...you won't be disappointed.

Now, see, that is why I come here. I can trust this forum though I have no doubt there are decent, honest salesmen out there just trying to make a living.
I didn't know the extended warranty was negotiable. They show you a chart. It is the one that covers everything up to a radio knob falling off. I am going to talk to them today.
I have looked online, at Edmunds and Kelly and in person, and this is the best buy I have seen. However, that doesn't mean much given all of you and your experience out there.
Maybe I can ask for the warranty a bit cheaper. On a 2006, I do want it. On a new one I wouldn't bother.
Thanks so much, I am going this afternoon so if there is any advice you have, I will take it with me. I have not even counter offered. This was the price given to me.

One question: instead of lowering the price, would it be appropriate to ask them to take my prodigy brake controller and back up camera off my old truck and install them on the new one?
Thanks,

Yes, in that neither was a factory or dealer accessory. They'd probably pull off the brake controller before offering it for retail sale anyway. That's certainly not too much to ask.
