You might try shutting the door with a small piece of metal in the seal. This would leave a channel for any air to escape and if it's the seal, the noise should stop.
If it turns out to be the seal, just install a new one on the fridge.

My "wild" thought.

If you have one of the electronic switching converters such as WFCO, Parallax/Magnetek 7X00 series, etc., try just turning on a light or two when you hear the whine - anything to add a little load to the converter output.

There are several reports of this design of converters having a hissing or whine when they are under a very light load. They don't do it when under a moderate or heavy load.

When you open the door and the light comes on, you added load to the converter output. So....try a different light or two and see if the whine stops.

Put a bottle of wine in it and see if that helps. I know that my wife has a high pitched WHINE if I don't keep enough WINE in her!

To test the seal, take a dollar and see if you can move it around the seal between the door and frame. If the dollar stops the noise at a given point, you've found the location and the problem.

I love the bottle of wine solution though!!!

MELM............your wild thought......... hit the nail right on the head......our converter is in the island right across from the refridge......the whine went away every time we turn on anything in the 12 volt system........including opening the refridge door and having the light come on.......sooooooooooooooooo, guess we live with it.......Tech Issues Forum hits another homerun for us......

Thank You All
Don

Your symptoms matched those for the converter issue - and it shows up on the forum periodically. I thought I should put it up as an option - especially with the the "price" to try it not being too high.

Sound can travel in an RV, and can appear to come from an "innocent bystander".

You indicate you are full timers, so if you have hookups most of the time, the converter may see little load at times. If it is still under warranty, you might ask for a replacement but they may not consider it a "failure". If it is loud enough, a dealer may be able to help convince them.

A couple of thoughts for "living with it":

Some reefer's have a "humidity control" that can be manually turned on. If yours has that feature, try turning it on it as it is a DC load.

And, of course, turn on a light somewhere. You may be able to put in a low wattage bulb, and in an area where it doesn't annoy you.

Both of these can be turned off if you do spend some time without a hookup.

Maybe other members have some input for this problem.

we found an under cabinet light that is enough to keep it from whining.......hate to be wasteful by leaving an unneeded light on....but it is a fairly low wattage bulb.........so we have solved it with your help......the converter is overated for our rig......the dealer put it in as we bought the rig......so it is all ours to deal with.....

Thanks again
Don
