Thanks to all who offered advice and suggestions----a short time after I posted this question, I suddenly remembered we have a small camping supply store at the other end of town where we rarely go. I stopped by there and bought a 25ft 30 amp shore power extension cord. When DH gets home from work today he knows what to do with it and I won't have to worry anymore and we will have it if we ever need it again. Thanks to all of you here----I have always gotten a lot of great advice and info from all of you here and always learn a lot by reading other posts and asking questions. Thanks again!

if you are using the AC and it is starting then you are looking good so far but the next thing would be to see how hot the wire is getting. If you are not needing the AC it should be fine. As one post said if the cord is 12 gauge or smaller number you are probably OK. one of the other issue is if the amp draw is two low you can affect some of your equipment. Do not worry about the connections. If it rains just get it off the ground. If there is a hardware store close by you can buy wire and make a cord. I actully have a 80' 8 guage cord I made. My dads ranch the electric box is to far to run ext cords so made a heavy duty cord. I probably would of not had one this large but actually made it to run my welder one time when I was about 80' from what I was building.

I "assume" that you are using the proper 30 or 50 amp extension cord? If so why worry. on reading the entire thread I see your hubby apparently did it wrong but it is corrected now?

Just bought a 50Amp extension cord of 25 feet from campingworld for (Gulp) 150 bucks.
Not bad actually because my local rv stealer ( lol) wanted 196.99 for the same cord.

I just wanted to chime in that when dealing with 30amp service most Home Improvement stores sell 10/4 or 10/3 SJO cord by the foot, a lot of people use it to backfeed their breaker panels at home from a generator during hurricanes down here.
10/4 is about 2$ a foot and you can get the 30AMP connectors for about $15 - $30 a piece, the nicer ones are water sealed units so you could make an extension and end up with a "water sealed" connection between your RV's shore cable and the new extension.
Making up the cord will require some wire strippers and a screw driver but it's very straight forward to say the least and could save you some cash.

but that's for a 30 amp cord, you can buy one of those made up at a reasonable price, it's when you get to 50 amp that it gets unreasonable.

All of our trailers have been 50 amp service simply because they have been prepped for washer/dryer. The first couple of times that we found the power post too far for our factory cord to reach we talked to the campground and each time they loaned us a 30 amp extension cord which we returned on departure. After that we purchased a 30 amp RV extension cord and have been good ever since.
We bought the 30 amp instead of a 50 amp because of the cost difference and when on the 30 amp supply can simply switch the water heater over to LP, we only have one AC unit.
