I was looking a kayaks about 6 months ago and had finally talked myself out of buying one. Now this post comes along and has me thinking about it again...sheesh. It was a post about like this one that had me shopping. If I remember right it was by someone from Maine and they included pics of a sea kayak in amongst some islands; it was beautiful. ...Well...guess it's time to start looking at kayaks again as we have a couple of local lakes that could be fished much more efficiently from a small boat.

Dave, let me know how your conoe mounts work out.

I believe that was me Nemo667. The muscle ridge islands in Thomaston Maine. You might consider building a Wooden boat. About a third the cost of Fiberglass and stronger and lighter..plus a little sweat equity.

Right now I'm building one of these as I believe it will be better for traveling, and for accessing those out of the way mountain lakes, than the 17 footer.

All wonderful paddling pictures. I'm more inspired than ever. Thanks for the canoe on camper shot Rich. That was what I expected when I got mine last week & I wish my canoe was flat like that. The arch in my Charles River is about 11 inches high in the middle, and completely curves over the top of my ac unit and large vent covers. And the canoe is exactly as long as my camper top, so no hanging over the edge. Plus my camper is about 9 ft. high with the top down. Bought the canoe instead of a kayak for more room and to camp out of as well as fish. And ok, to nap in whilst the DW paddles.

Hi Ya Ben, I'll let you know how it works out. Gotta be a way.

I use my camper for a backpacking base as well. Like someone else said, it's nice to get back and take an immediate shower, and continue camping. This particular trip I had to hide my bike in a cedar forest where the hike would end up, and ride back to the truck I guess about 10 miles away. And those "gentle" hills in the truck...were killers pedaling with a 50lb pack on. The hike was in Grand Gulch, Utah. So instead of paddling, I was pedaling. Hope to have paddling pictures sometime oh yeah!
