HI to all,
I am going to pismo(oceano dunes) in two weeks and was wondering if anyone who has traveled north on the 101 from southern-cali had ever taken the short-cut through the 154 (towing) to save 13miles instead of staying on the 101? Are the hills steep or pretty gradual to clime or stop. How's the view? Do any of you recommend? Thanks for any feedback!!

It might be worth the trip not towing. I would take the 138 to the 5 north to the 166 west to 101 then north to Pismo.

Ditto the Jack

If 154 slows you down by 13 minutes, you haven't saved a thing.

That is crazy to travel the 101 from the southland pullin a rig, unless you're on the clock

We live in Lancaster and have a timeshare in pismo area and also camp in that area and this is the fastest way we have found.

The 154 pass is a ton faster, unless there's some guy pulling a trailer to slow it down for everybody.

I don't recommend towing over the pass. You really gum it up for everyone else.

I used to drive San Marcos pass weekly (154 to non-locals). It's a great road to take if you want to save time. If you're towing, 101 is faster. And as already inferred, you'll just piss off anyone, such as myself, trying to save time.

I'm with most here. Use the 5/166 unless you're driving on off hours the 101 sucks with traffic. You're coming from Littlerock so you'll have to cut across somewhere, either 126 or just go up to the 138 and over the grapevine like someone else said. The 101 between Carpenteria and Santa Barbara totally sucks unless it's LATE at night or EARLY in the A.M.
