Coming home from work today, as I headed west on Hwy 1 at Abbotsford BC, I saw the traffic eastbound was at a dead standstill for many miles. My wife called me and told me to detour as the highway was closed eastbound. I was going west - traffic OK.
I did some digging to see what happened and discovered that not one but 2 of our RV'ing family had been involved in 2 separate wrecks. One was local here and the other a few hundred miles north of Vancouver BC.
Both accidents were caused by a driver crossing the centerline on one and a median on the other and slamming head-on into trucks pulling trailers.
I saw pictures of the one near Chilliwack BC and the SUV and travel trailer were demolished, upside down off the side of the road. The car that caused the crash sent a woman and 3 small children to hospital, but thank God, they are alive. The driver of the SUV escaped with minor injuries.
The other crash, unfortunately, killed 3 people, 2 at the scene and one later at the hospital.
Here's a link to one of the stories - it covers both accidents:
I post this as yet another reminder for all of us to really take our time and travel safely. Sure, both RV'rs here were not at fault, but rather victims of other errant drivers, but we have to exercise caution anyways as we travel down the highways. We have to beware that something could suddenly put our lives in jeopardy and always be prepared to take evasive action should something happen.
Travel safely everyone.

Humm OP. you said both were less than clear when you said: "Both accidents were caused by a driver crossing the centerline on one and a median on the other and slamming head-on into trucks pulling trailers."
Makes it sound like it was the RVers fault.. In fact the "Trucks pulling Trailers" were the RV's and the vehicles on the wrong side of the road passenger cars A honda and an Olds
Still.. Wonder what the car drivers were doing, cause they sure were not operating their cars

I was right behind an accident like that. Divided 6 lane highway with a huge grass and culvert median between us and the other side of the interstate.
That car in what seemed like nano seconds crossed his two lanes and then came flying over the median, the ditch cluvert did not stop it and hit head on with a truck going the opposite direction. 3 lanes and a median strip away yet that one killed 6 people.
It happens so fast you don't have time to react, all I saw was a white blur out the corner of my eye and then the impact.
Very said for the loss of life's in those RV accidents.

Chevy Tracker 4x4 Blue Ox We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned,
so as to have the life that is waiting for us.
I recall, oh, perhaps 25 years ago, a movie something like "The great traffic jam" (In fact it was 28 years ago Link to Yahoo Movies At the time the traffic control center was pure science fiction with cameras and changeable message signs and sensors in the road and more...
Except that here in Michigan we were installing those sensors and cameras in 28 years ago
And I got to work the last 11 years of my career as a police dispatcher in a room that makes that control center look primitive. With over 150 cameras we could watch the freeways and look at the aftermath of many an accident,,, including one of my own and another where I'm sitting in the "W" seat (Witness, not involved)
I've seen many accidents on the freeway.. Never saw one come across the median live.. But I've looked at what happened far too close.

down right scary about the one I saw first hand was.....it should have been me. I decided to slow down and move back into the right lane and the truck behind me moved into my space in the left lane and got hit head on. I spent 2 hours on the side of the road thinking real hard about life while trying to come out of shock about that one.
Watching upclose the fire department, EMT rescue jump in and start helping was unbelievable. Don't know how you guys can do that with all that carnage, but we all sure do appreciate what you do.
