Having done a search and found many discussions on the Miata as a Toad, most of which related to 2005 and prior cars, I am unsure whether the 2006 to 2008 6spd Miata can be towed. Is anyone actively towing one?
I understand that the for the 3rd generation Miata (2006 and newer) Mazda uses a different 6spd transmission than the 2005 and prior transmission (the 5spd is the same as previous I understand). I see that Roadmaster has a bracket for the 2006 to 2008. There is lots of discussion about towing the 2005 and prior 6spd with no problems but I was wondering if anyone is actually towing a 2006 or newer and any problems they had.

Hi Don EEE,
I suspect that many of the opinions about towing a Miata that you found in your search were mine.
Honestly, I'm not sure whether the 06-08 6-speed is different from the 05 and earlier cars, but I have several sources and will find out.
I think that I can still get in touch with 2 guys who are pulling 06s or 07s.
I am active in this and a couple of other RV forums and a couple of Miata forums and the local large Dallas Miata club.
Lots of people will say that it can't be done without disasterous results and nearly all reference Mazda as the source, but I know at least a dozen Miata towers (admittedly most are pre-05) and I have yet to hear of ANYONE who has actually experienced ANY driveline problms due to towing any manual transmission Miata either behind an RV or to a race track.
I'll get back to you soon.
Tim

The 06+ Miata 6-speed is indeed different previous Miata 6-speeds.
I only know, for sure, of one RVer who is towing an 06.
I will send you a Private Message with his contact information.
Even though the newer Miata transmission is different than the others, I would have no trepedation about flat-towing any Miata MANUAL transmission.
Mazda does not endorse flat-towing ANY of their vehicle drivelines and among the Miata "experts", some will argue that the 5-speed is not flat-towable, but ALL acknowledge that due to the re-design of the 6-speed transmission, that it IS flat-towable.
