It's a name thing. Most of us who have one probably think that ours is best. I have two Honda's but I think that Honda and Yamaha are both good. Brand name doesn't mean much to me. Look at noise level at idle and at full load, then look at price and availability before you buy.

I have a SIL who sold both of them in his store. I waited too long to get the Yamaha from, the store decided that Honda sold better and discontinued the Yamaha's. I have the 2000 Honda and have had starting problems with it. other than that it has been a good unit.

They are both good generators and as long as you can live within their load capacity either will fulfill your needs. The only edge the Honda has is the ability to be paralleled.

My Honda can take 5-6 pulls to start. Reminds me of my old Honda motorcycles that had to have the fuel drained out of the carb bowls if they sat for a week or more. My friends Suzuki could set for two months weeks and start rite up. It's the same thing with Honda generators. Drain the bowl and it starts within two pulls.

I have an older yamaha 1000, not sure of the model, it's kind of boxy and weighs quite a bit but it's very quiet and sips fuel.

The Yamaha has a fuel shut off and a larger gas tank opening.
