Hi,

Thanks for your replies!

When I purchased Chloie, her breeder gave me quite a packet of documents. Including eye exam charts for she and her parents too. All was well. If this condition persists today, I will ask my Vet anyway.

She had just that one episode yesterday after being very active with episodes the previous days. I am very hopeful that we will have no further episodes today. So far so good.

We have purchased some fly traps and I am now keeping the door closed and hope that Chloie will learn to ask when she wants to go out. This would have had to happen in the Winter anyway.

I have plans to write to her breeder (who is very helpful and has written to ask how she is doing) today. I will ask all these questions.

I have looked for ear discharge or infection. I know that I am not the expert, so if this “behavior” persists today, she will be going back to the Vet. He did not state that he found any problems in that regard though.

The Vet did check her female parts and advised that she did have some sores from the grooming or her licking. He recommended using Tri Top medication to sooth the area. She is not doing the licking or biting any more, but still was doing the “nut butt” routine yesterday.

I don’t think that this is seizures as Persalina had them and Chloie’s actions are not at all similar. This is surely another probable cause and I do know that there can be many different types of seizures too.

One last thing that I just noticed while Chloie was sitting next to me and looking up at the moving ceiling fan. The groomer did not trim her head (said that Chloie would not let her) and the hair is now drooping over her eyes. Her vision could be diminished and of course she would not be used to that at her young age. Her breeder had shaved her face the day we purchased her, so I am going to ask her about that too. Maybe I can do it with the new trimmer I purchased. Even though I have trimmed Persalina and Moonbeam for several years, I have been too scared to try using the trimmer on Chloie.

Thanks again for your suggestions and I surely hope that I will have good news to report in the next few days. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Sincerely,
Dawn

PS: I don't believe that she is passing gas. We have not made any changes and if she was, fortunately I would not know. I lost my sense of smell over five years ago. Kevin would have noticed though!

My little Aussie has a shunt around her liver and you have described some of the extreme behaviors caused by toxins in her intestines, i.e. the darting, blindness and abnormal fears. With her current regimen of meds and rx foods she is doing well most of the time.
I would take your dog to the vet for a good check-up asap.

Hi Retired Wileys,

Thanks for your concern and your input. Also, I am so sorry to hear that your Aussie is not well. I can tell that she/he is getting great care.

Chloie has not exhibited any of these symptoms today. She was at the Vet last Saturday and I surely would return her fast if she were to continue to exhibit such strange behaviors. I am keeping a close eye on her as I am retired and home during the day.

Thanks to everyone for your replies and concern. I always know where to go for help when I need it!

Sincerely,
Dawn

When one of my maltese got cataracts and is now almost totally blind, she is doing the same thing. I know yours is very young but you might want to have her checked for glaucoma. Sugar (mine) was fine until it got to where she could only see shawdows. Good luck.

Hi Barb & Chemisd,

Yes, she it fine. She has been great (just puppy stuff) for the last three days.

Barb, guess you know all about "puppy stuff" right now yourself.

Keeping the back door closed to keep the flies out is working just fine. Chloie has taught herself to go to the door and ask me to let her out. She did so twice today (for the first time). I am a happy camper and she is too! I have to keep a close eye on her because her asking is very subtle. I could miss the clue.

Give Willow a kiss for me (if you can slow her down long enough) LOL!

Cute picture. Normally people have stuffed animals in the window of their motor home. You got the real thing. Too cute!
