I'm still thinking of them!

I saw someone had posted that they roasted twinkies--something I never would have thought of on my own. I haven't even had a twinkie since I was a kid!

Anyway, we roasted them with our marshmallow skewers. We lost one in the fire. If you wait too long, the inside starts to crumble and it oozes off. Just two minutes will give you enough of an effect.

We ate them in bowls like cake.

The outside was a bit crunchy (a lot like those Howard Johnson's frozen "toasties" and the inside was soft and warm and gooey.

To die for. I can't wait to go camping again so I can have them. Until then, I will be craving them each night!

My husband will love this recipe. He always gets deep fried twinkies at the fair. He also loves peeps. Someone brought peeps one time when camping and we roasted them. The sugar in them carmelizes. Deb

That sounds like a fun treat to make on a campout. Do you dip the twinkies in anything, or just stick them on a skewer and toast them?

The MN State Fair sells deep friend Twinkies. They dip them in batter, then deep fry and roll in powdered sugar. I've never been brave enough to try one though... I'm afraid I'll like it oo much!

I fry Twinkies in a skillet "Grilled-cheese-syle" with a little butter. Careful though, it only takes a few seconds per side.

Give it a try!

Twinkies also make a good substitute for the "cake" in strawberry shortcake. Creamy filling inside and add whipped cream on top of the strawberries.

We tried this, this weekend and they were to die for! Who knew a roasted twinkie could be so good. Thanks for the idea.
