This may be a bit out there, but where else can I get an answer for this? At this moment we do not have any pets. My DH is dead set against dogs and cats. (my schedule is to busy anyway for a dog or cat)I am thinking of getting my sons a couple of gerbils (plus I always wanted one anyway)We camp seasonally and we spend a few days away from home at a time. I would like to take the critters with us to the campsite, but I don't know if they would like constant change from one environment to another. I would probably set up a home "tank" and a smaller camper "tank" so they would be comfortable. I'm just putting this out there hoping someone may have a suggestion.

from the days that I had gerbils, and I would strongly suggest getting two females and not one of each sex, I didn't notice any personality changes when they were moved around. AFAIK, they seemed to not notice much going on outside of their tank, not even the cat lying on the screen cover.

Do not no anything about Gerbils. But we have taken out guinea pigs with us. I was amazed at how smart they are. They will talk to us when it is time for a treat.
I was somewhat forced to take 2 parakeets with me when the people who promised they would pick them up before the closing on my home, didn't.
I would never dream of RV'ing with birds, but I gotta tell you they are very pleasant to have in the MH. Low maint. And listening to them answer the wild birds every morning is like having nature in your MH.
Except one has taken to complaining while on the road when I hit bumps! Actually it makes me laugh everytime he does it.
In my past experience kids who have gerbils want to take them 'out' to play with. With birds kids are pretty much intent with feeding them and watching them in their cages. The later being safer RV'ing.
And read up if you decide about gerbils, we found out with my neices who kept dieing.....that some of them have 'very' short life spans. The teddy bear gerbils being the shortest.

I don't think they would notice a change in their habitat. I don't think they have very good eyesight, do they?
