When you start up a fridge how long does it normally take to cool off?
Also does it cool faster on gas versus electricity or does it matter?
Sorry that I don't know what model or kind of frdge it is. THanks for the help in advance.

I have started mine(propane) and packed it with cold food/drinks within one hour and all seems to stay cold just fine. I usually start it the night before on propane at the storage lot. Faster on propane for me because I don't have electric until at camp if at all.

We have our MHs parked on our driveway. I normally plug-in to a 20 amp outlet the MH we will be using the day before the trip and turn on the refrigerator to start cooling it (charges house battery too). I also load the freezer with frozen food we will be bringing along. This helps cool the frige faster. Milk and easily perishible items get loaded when the frige is already cool (usually within a few hours). Then I unplug just before we go.
Relax, drive safely, and enjoy God's creations.

Thanks for all the help. This is my first TT, and I was freaking out when it didn't get could in like a hour. The freezer got cold pretty fast but the fridge part didn't. I think that I about have it all lined out to go out for the first time. I have to replace the bathtub controls tomorrow one of the pipes was cracked in it. Other than that we just cleaned it, flushed the tanks and lines. Now its time to pack up and get out there.

Like already mentioned, our's takes the better part of a day (8 hrs or so). I haven't noticed much difference between starting it up on either electric or gas.

We start ours up the day before. We make sure everything is cooled down before adding it to the fridge. We usually freeze all the meats and will put them in the fridge to thaw out for the trip as we are one of those folks that travel with the propane off. The frozen meats help keep the fridge good and cold. We pack the freezer with frozen veggies which handle the trip very well. We won't travel with ice cream though.
Don't like the view?? Then change it and Go Camping

I have an Excel spread sheet measuring this because I too was wondering. The fridge was a 99 Dometic 2 door. The starting temperature was same as outside air temperature, 55F, when the fridge was started. It took 3 hours for the freezer to reach 15F (fresh food compartment 38F) at which point it started to cycle to maintain 15F in the freezer. The fridge was empty and running on propane.

I usually start mine 8hrs or so before loading with food, but at start up I put 2 frozen half gal. milk jugs (filled with water) into the freezer and 2 in the fridge. When I load up with food I will leave 2 or 4 of the jugs and switch them between fridge and freezer every day or so depending on how much room I have. I think it helps the fridge maintain temp. I also put 1 jug in my beverage cooler, it helps maintain the ice.
