I'm buying a new popup trailer and going to Denver next month via I-40 & I-25. This trip isn't about sightseeing as much as seeing the grandkids in Denver. To make the drive in 3 days I need to find campgrounds in the Flagstaff or Sedona area for the first night and Albuquerque or Santa Fe the second night. I'm new to the whole trailer camping thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

May I suggest Williams, AZ instead of Flagstaff, Railroad RV close to I-40. Or Holbrook, AZ if you can stand the drive. We have stayed in a KOA on I-25 just north of Albuquerque that was nice. Enjoy your trip.

Either Railroad RV in Williams or Rancho Sedona in Sedona are good choices. I heard the road into Sedona is under construction and a mess.

Between Albuquerque and Santa Fe on I-25 is Hollywood Casino(exit 252) Its free and there is Elect and Water available for a small fee.
There is a convenience store there and it has fuel.

Williams is a good choice as there are many RV parks available. We use Circle Pines KOA one exit east of town. Quiet with easy to use pull throughs. Then Las Vegas KOA on I-25 is about 5 miles south of town. Also quiet with friendly people. The distances are about the same for the 2 days of driving. Day 3 into Denver would be a little shorter. Hit the cruise control and relax while the miles go by.
The San Felipe casino/fuel/store mentioned above at mile 252 is nice and convenient and around 90 miles short of Las Vegas.

Woody Mountain in Flag...easy in easy out. Williams is good too, but If I'm you and want to get miles behind me, I'm going further than that.
If I were going to Denver from OC, I'd go 15 up to Beaver UT, overnight there, then hit the 70 and go over. With a pop up, 70 should be a piece of cake.

Unfortunately, I-70's not an option. Can't do the altitude for personal reasons unrelated to the rig. Is it possible to get space in these camps without reservations this time of year? It would be nice to just get out and drive as far as I get in a day but not if I have to book in advance. This is my first trip so I may come up short on miles the first day. Just don't know quite what to expect.

All I can suggest is, with a popup, don't stay near a Hwy or a commercial stop over (casino or truck stops). The noise will make for a long night. Good luck and have a safe trip.
