I need some help, what websites would you recommend in using to try and sell my 5th Wheel? and.....with the economy with the way it is, are RV's selling or are they sitting?
I'd at least try craigslist, it's free. As far as selling right now, I think they still are, but be prepared to go a couple grand UNDER book value to sell it, that's what I've been noticing . For example, I was supposed to look at a 04 30ft.HolidayRambler with all upgrades,50amp with dual A/C's, used four times, with the plastic still on the carpet, and the asking price was 15,900, that's only a couple K under value, but in extremely good condition. The only problem was that weekend my father past away ,and it kind of ruined the RV mindset if you know what I mean, time I got back to him it was gone.
Don't forget about Craigslist.com. I just used them for a cottage sale and they work well and seem to get good responses. It is easy to use and can be tailored for different areas. It is totally free and you can insert four pictures. Certainly worth the effort.
How RV's are selling seems to be open to interpretation. In our area, I don't see a dropoff and that may be that with the price of gas, people are realizing that taking vacation by car and motel are much more expensive than ones in an RV, and they are switching. Families still seem to be using RV's and maybe trips are shorter but they still need the camper. I guess time will tell.
Also, if the economy is causing some people to question a new RV purchase, that might make used rigs pretty desirable. I just sold my used fifth-wheel (after buying a new one) and didn't need to reduce the price or have it on the market very long.
I used Craigslist with notable lack of response...rather than fiddle around, I consigned my 5th wheel with PPL Motorhomes in Houston..sold within a week.
Although the fast sale made me wonder if I was pricing it too low, the sales price was only $1,000 below what I had listed on Craigslist. Of course, with the commission, I took a bit of a hit, but a good tradeoff of time vs. $$.
....and I think I was lucky to sell a big, heavy, 5th wheel in today's market for anything close to what I wanted.

I am going on Wednesday to pickup my Fifth wheel that I have had on consignment at an RV dealer. It was a total disaster and I will never consign anything again. They continually told me a different story everytime I called and tried to repeatedly get me to make more repairs on my RV even though they low-balled me on the price I would receive as my net sale since it did have some minor water damage. They listed it for $3,000 higher then they told me they would which did not make it very saleable. Their sales figure was $6,000 higher then the net price they would give me. That's alot of commission especially since they offer no warranty on consignment rigs. The worst part is that I was dealing with the Sales Manager and he couldn't seem to keep his stories straight from one phone call to the next. Like I said this has been a nightmare and now I have to pay them $5 a day for storage fee while my rig was on their lot and it hadn't sold. So my thoughts are -- be very careful when you place your rig for consignment.
