About a year ago I had the plastic power steering pump pulley break and fall off leaving only the steel hub that press fits onto the power steering pump. I had it replaced and it work fine up until about a month ago. The pulley did not break at that point and appeared to be turning fine, but there was not power assist to the steering or hydraboost for the brakes. I then drive it to the shop to have it looked at and on the way there the pulley breaks again and falls off. I appear that something is causing the pump to lock up momentarily and the plastic pulley spins on the steel hub and them falls off. Is this an issue with a stuck pressure releif valve in the pump or is it a problem with the hydraboost? The pump was partially disassembled and the vanes appeared to be in good working order. So I can only look to a pressure relief problem or I would assume there there is a flow divider in the hydraboost since the pressure line in the pump goes to the hyrdraboost and then to the steering gear and then there are two return lines, one for the hyrdaboos and one from the steering gear so there has to be a flow divider there or you would not be able to have full power on both at the same time. So I am guessing there may be problem with either the hydraboost or with the steering gear or both and one is causing a "dead head in fluid flow" casuing the pump to momentarily lock up.
Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated.
