just curious here. we`ve owned hybrids,large travel trailers a 40 ft. fifth wheel toy hauler and now a 31 ft. class c rv.
between racing harescrambles in va. and family vacations, we go A LOT!!
anyway,we have certainly learned a bunch about the camping lifestyle and we all (wife 15 yr old daughter and 11 yr old son )pretty much agree that all we do is sleep,in the campers. we don`t just hang out inside them much.
anyway, i find myself considering a pop up nowadays. as much as we go, there would definitely be a fuel savings and all we actually really want is a/c,bathroom w/ shower and beds. anybody else here taken the same "trip" we`ve been on and considering a pop up now??? thanks for any input.
We have taken that trip. Started with a hybrid, then a TT, then a popup. We didn't really care for the popup but did enjoy the low-profile tow so we looked at hard-sided fold-downs and chose our current RV, a Hi-Lo. We enjoy it and primarily use it showering and sleeping or if it's raining. What we didn't like about the popup was rain, storm and winds. They are also less private than a hardside meaning you can hear everything that goes on outside and vice versa. You will also not have the convenience of using the bathroom or stopping for a snack while on the road as you currently do with your MH. Since you say you camp alot the setting up/taking down may get old very fast. You could see about renting one for a weekend and see how it works for you and your family.

We've gone the other way from 3 popups to a hard sided Trailmanor. And you might want to seriously think about the problems with popups. Mainly how long it takes to break down and setup (way too long) plus the weather problem. If you run into a couple of days of rain you will not enjoy your popup. As mentioned you also give up privacy and the bathrooms are minimalist to say the least.
Think about HiLo and Trailmanor you might like one of them.
Have done the entire route here, too, Darryl.....and when faced with the same kind of decision after unloading the class A, I still have the '96 TT, and have just finished building my second TH (profile).....BUT I never let go of my '83 Jamestown Ltd. PUP!!!!
MY circumstance is a bit different though....just about every time I go out, it's just the two of us meeting either or both my grand sons, or other family, somewhere....and they're often towing one or both---the TT or PUP---for the meet.......if I didn't have my TH(built the way we want it), and I had to choose just one rig, it would probably be a HT or hi-lo just a bit bigger than my TH---enough for comfy sleeping for four......although my TH bath is smaller than the TT, it is complete---something I would never give up on a regular basis(and she won't either!).....that said, I do use the PUP regularly for overnite setups when I wanna' be at the fishin' hole first thing in the AM.......
After changing horses a bunch, I've found that the song title is right-on....you don't know what you've got, until you lose it!

If you can beg or borrow(rent) a well-equipped PUP, I'd for sure try it again before you make a move.....although I really enjoy the ease of operation and economy of a PUP when on my own or with my two GS.....there's no way I'd make it a permanent thing for the two of us.
Now she who must be obeyed is asking about a small pup. I nearly fell over, since I was the driving force behind the RVs and I thought she was just going along with what I wanted. But I have mentioned about the possibility of 1 or 2 short tenting trips and she DOES NOT want to be back on the ground.

We started out with a pup, went to a couple of travel trailers and then to a 36' 5th wheel with an F-250 diesel. The last couple of years we didn't get to go much, so decided to sell the 5th wheel and diesel (besides the fact that diesel had gotten so expensive.) After about a month, we realized we just couldn't be without a camper. We really enjoyed our pup when we had it, so we decided to check out the new ones. We found a Starcraft Centennial 3608 that we really liked and bought it about a month ago. We've been out twice in it and can't wait to go again. We love it!!! Our grandchildren (2 of them - ages 4 and 5) camped with us this weekend and had a ball. We have a routine for set up and take down and we're getting pretty good at it again!! So, here we are, senior citizens and loving our pop-up.
Yes, we started in a tent, Then went to a truck tent, then a 20' toy hauler, up to a 30' toyhauler and found that as we increased size we lost some places to go. You can not bring a 30'TH everywhere, like the boonies.So we bought a used popup from our neighbor and love it! we can haul the quad in the truck and pull the popup behind and go back to the areas we were'nt able to before. Truck tents are okay but not near as comfortable. So now we feel we have the best of all worlds.
My progression has been from tent, popup, small Class A (22'), and large (35') diesel Class A, then popup again. So I'm back to just a popup now that I can pull with my Subaru. Wasn't really a financial decision--I just really didn't NEED the hassle of owning another big vehicle that can't get into as many places as I can with the popup. In the amount of time it would take to put the awnings out on the Class A, I can have the popup fully set up and ready to go, so if anything it's been an improvement in setup/breakdown time.
We have gone full circle. Since the first of this year we have gone from a 35 foot Class A to a Park Model for the winter and a Chalet LTW and Honda Civic for the summer.
