I am in the process of removing the carpeting in my 2000 Holiday Rambler(with a slide) and replacing it with laminate flooring. I did a search on flooring and saw lots of info. but not an answer to my problem.
Has anyone put down a floating floor without gluing it to the sub floor and did it squeak while driving down the highway. I would rather not glue it but I'm afraid it will drive the DW crazy if it squeaks. I was thinking of gluing the seems where the boards lock together to minimize the movement and possible squeaks. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. r/Hoot

I Glued Ours Down wherever I could. It doesn't Squeak! If I was to do it over I would use Cork Laminate as opposed to the Oak Stuff! It should not be necessary to glue the seams on Cork as It is designed to be repaired by removing single Planks>

I did NOT glue mine and no squeaks. My laminate had a foam backing on it already and I put another one down on the sub-floor for good measure. I think the noise level actual decreased compared to carpet.

I did not glue mine down and it does not squeak. Make sure you leave room at the edges for expansion.

And be prepared for the planks to swell when water hits it.

Hi,
Mine does not squeak. Don't glue it, let it float. Leave 1/4" around the outside for expansion. As for water, if you leave it lay on the floor you may have a problem. Clean it off right away, no problem.
This stuff is great and you will love it.

I do have a couple of squeeks, however I wknow what the problem is. It is where I did NOT leave enough clearance for the floor to expand. It is a fairly simple fix, I have to use a utility knife and scribe it a dozen or so times where I need to widen the gap. The laminate is VERY hard and it is a slow process.
I guess the secret is to make sure you have enough of a gap when you install it.

For those of you who have done this, did you do it on the slide too? I have tile on the main floor, but the LR slide is carpeted and it's ugly (and has food stains under the dining table).
I'd like to replace the carpet on the slide, but I'm not sure what to use. It has to be tough enough to handle the 2 dining room chairs. I don't think laminate planks or tiles would be good - might not stay together since the aisle side is an open edge. Perhaps a single sheet of heavy-duty vinyl, but that might look just as ugly as the existing carpet.

We just finished our Holiday Rambler Imperial with a slide today. Wow its so nice. We did not glue it at all,as recommended and left 3/8 of a gap around the outer edge. We put the same on the slide which was a little bit of a puzzle but it turned out beautiful. The front edge on ours has a edge about 1 1/2" high so my husband cut a trim piece from a 2x4 on the router. Screwed it on just like the carpet had been. Then it was sanded and stained to match. We put round felt chair pads on the table and chairs just like at the house and they are great. The hardest part was up at the drivers side because the cuts were tricky but if we can do it I feel anyone can as this was our first home project ever. We did also raise the captains chair and the passenger up one layer higher so it would not rest on the main floor so it could move some. It was scary the first time we put the slide in and out as we had read here that some had rubbed and scratched the floor. But if your careful it can work. Good luck, you will love it.
